Means very little before conference play IMO. I read enough posts on Cyclone Report talking about how awesome we were in football based on computer algorithms and only lost 6 games because of how great the B12 was this year. I don't buy that based on what I saw with my own eyes this year

I'll start putting more faith in Kenpom and other predictions (computer or otherwise) a month from now

I don't think we'll see that same spark we saw last year to start conference play. This team doesn't have it in them, imo.

as ugly as we have won some games, we do some things really well, which I assume is why KenPom is putting us in the top half. We score a lot, we make a lot of threes and we usually rebound really well. Don't tell me it's against crap teams - everyone else is playing cupcakes too.

I agree. I really think CFH uses these non-con games to experiment, as others have also suggested. I've noticed that we seem to change up the defense, run different offensive sets, and mix up the lineup more in these non-con games. I think he'll pull out the stops a lot more in league play.

Similarly, I think Lucious steps up BIG from here on out. He's a great, fast cutter who's great at driving in and either putting up a shot, drawing a foul, or creating an open perimeter look. He seemed to be doing this a lot more during the "do or die" moments against Yale today rather than relying on a passing offense. I think we'll see more of that out of Korie.

My point is, pre-season predictions of any kind are nice and all, but they are purely for entertainment purposes. USC was ranked #1 for a while this season in football. They finished 7-6.

I just don't buy into these computer models based on a handful of games. All I'm saying is that I want to see us beat a tourney team or two before I get too excited.

Nah, it's just scoring/defensive efficiency at the end of the game. ISU was supposed to win by 21 (at the expected pace), so the rating is probably going to tank a little after today. KSU could potentially leapfrog, which would probably change up KenPom's simulation results, particularly since B12 does play a round-robin.
