Re: Floyd vs. Eustachy Tonight!
Floyd was a better recruiter. LE better coach, when not wasted hamming it up with rival team co eds. I thought ISU gave LE a bad deal. Should have put him on leave for a year or however long it took for him to get clean.
that said it really seems to have worked out for him. And now finally has worked out for ISU.

Both are great coaches though and you can't go wrong with either one. Fun to watch these two teams play. It's a man's game out there tonight. Yes, he won the Big 12 title with and without Fizer. He also lost to Hampton without Fizer. My point was he would not even have had Fizer, or the 99/00 season if Floyd had not brought Fizer to campus. But the trendy Cyclone Fanatic thing to do is hate the most dominant basketball player we've had in the modern era. Who is hating on Tinsley? Both he and Fizer were needed for 99/00. Fizer can't just be dismissed as though it was really just Tinsley's team. To me, that is just ridiculous. Imagine how good that team in 00/01 would have been had Fizer stayed. That team would certainly not have lost to a 15 seed in the first round.

Not in this thread, but there are quite a few folks who aren't sending Christmas cards to Jamaal.

I know that he wouldn't have had Fizer if Floyd wouldn't have been there, and that he won one of his two titles with Fizer. MY point is that you said you weren't sure what Larry would've accomplished had it not been for Fizer, and Larry won a Big 12 title WITHOUT Fizer. Also the Hampton game was terrible, but it'd be foolish to discredit the second best regular season in the history of Iowa State basketball.

Re: Floyd vs. Eustachy Tonight!
Floyd brought Fizer who led the Big 12 in scoring as a sophomore and was a consensus All-American the following year while once again leading the Big 12 in scoring. I can only assume the opportunity for Tinsley to play with Fizer had some effect on his decision to become a Cyclone. We might not have Tinsley or Fizer without Floyd.

Actually the main reason Jamaal committed to Iowa State was because he knew he would be able to come in and play right away. Marcus had nothing to do with his decision. It was down to us, Clemson, or UNLV when Jamaal picked us, as he was not too heavily recruited, and was considered a risk.
We were awful the two years before Jamaal came to ISU.

We were awful the two years before Jamaal came to ISU. We were awful but we also had 3 freshmen 4 sophomore 1 junior and 2 seniors and returned an All-American. Looking at a past roster and stats we lost Tony Rampton and Klay Edwards but returned our top 5 scorers. We weren't great but we were young.
Heinrich and Collison commited to Floyd but left when he did, we would have been scary if he stayed.

I agree we would've been solid if Floyd would've stuck around too. He was a hell of a recruiter, and a good coach as well. Bruton and Henderson being ruled ineligible really hurt us in Tim's final year. Then in Larry's first year, we gained Nurse, but still very much struggled putting the ball in the hole. Larry's second year when Jamaal and Kantrail showed up everything clicked and Fizer went from being a very good scorer to being an absolute beast.

Good info, I was young in those times but old enough to remember.
