Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
Since the OP said moment and not game I will go with 2000 at the Phog. Everyone said ISU who only really played seven players would get run out of the gym by KU's depth and running style of play. At one point they show Roy Williams squatting beside the court running his hands through his hair and Dave Armstrong talks about how the KU game plan was to run ISU off the court and instead they are getting run off the court. The best part of the shot is you can clearly see that Williams is shaking.
As far as the 5 in a row being the best conference streak against KU, I would think that is accurate. I know at one point just a couple of years ago ISU had the most wins in Lawrence since Big 12 play started. They don't lose there very often.
EDIT: Since the Big 12 was formed ISU has beat KU 8 times. The next best record against them are Texas and OSU with 6 wins apiece. Source: Wiki KU BB.

I was at this game, went with 2 buddies, we scalped tix, 1 right behind Roy Williams (I sat with my buddy Capt Morgan & was told to sit down repeatedly) and 2 seats at halfcourt behind the announcers where I sat 2nd half. Interestingly, the Phog Allen scoreboard went out (total BS) in the 2nd half. Being behind the announcers, I had all player stats & score right in front of me.
After we won, we went to the Wheel, a local bar & Eric Chenewith saw our group, the cardinal/gold gave us away. He approached us & said, man your coach owns us.... LE was the man.
Hard to top that game, although when I was @ ISU (84-90), Danny Manning never won in Ames (& we hardly won any road games). Also attended the final Big 8 Tourney game where we won too. That would have to be the 2nd best game vs KU away from Hilton...
Very tempted to visit Lawrence on Wednesday

Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
I would have to stretch mine out over 2 seasons. Home grown Iowans Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich started their Kansas career against ISU 0-4 with Hinrich fouling out of 2 of those games trying to guard Tinsley. We also won at the Phog in back to back years which I am curious just how many teams can claim that feat as tough as it is to win there.

Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
Just a few points as I watch these vids and read the discussion here…
• Tinsley is the best PG we've ever had. He was a man amongst boys out there and embarrassed a lot of the opposing guards. Strong as hell and crafty as a weasel.
• Back in the day there was nothing better than a Saturday KU vs. ISU basketball game. It was like watching two hours of the best movie you've ever seen.
• God I miss Pete Taylor calling the game.
• Johnny
• Jeff Grayer was a athletic beast.

Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
I think it was 1997, ISU was #5 and KU was #1, the game was on a Sunday, CBS, in Hilton. The atmosphere was freaking awesome, and it was my first ISU game of any kind. Even though ISU lost, Id go with that game.

Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
Not a specific game but beating Larry Brown and Danny Manning everytime they came to Ames was special. I remember one time in Ames for a little extra motivation KU wore alternate red uni's and we beat them.
Also, I think this game sort of gets lost in the lore because it was on a "neutral" court in KC, but one year we played them in the Big 8 tourney and absolutely blew them out. That game was a blast to watch!
Fizer's turn-around. Kantrail's bombs. Some great moments in this series.

Re: Favorite moment against the Jayhawks?
Not a singular moment but winning 5 in a row on Kansas is a big deal. A lot of elite programs like KU, Duke, UNC, etc just don't get beat by another program 5 times in a row. Its a good accomplishment and something to shoot for breaking again.

Tinsley, at KU. Don't remember the year. I forget who was guarding him, but he was just off the right of the top of the key and broke his defender down off the dribble so badly the poor guy fell down. It was an ESPN Top Ten play.

According to Kansas's website, the Jayhawks were ranked #1 at the time and the Cyclones were ranked #6. I had no idea the Clones were ranked so high during the 1997 season. Here is the box score for that game: KU Basketball 1996-97: KU at Iowa State, 2-9-97 -

2001 or 2002 I think. January. Freezing. Standing outside Hilton for hours with my brother (and lots of other fans) for an 11AM tip against KU. Waiting in line to get the best seats we could. People were setting paper on fire to keep warm.
Great game, great win.
