RPI works on not just your own games, but also your opponents' games and your opponents' opponents' games. You don't have to play a game for your rating to be affected. Pretty much too early still to be paying attention to RPI.

For rivalry reasons, that has its advantages (especially for fans who dislike Iowa more than Nebraska) but right now I'd prefer it the opposite with the head-to-head effect (in old Big 12, NU in top 50 would be advantageous, with two matcups instead of one)

Not that the odds are favorable, but ISU could make some early-season hay with an upset at KU.
Mini-bummer in the short-term: After opening game, ISU can't pick up a true impact win until Jan. 26 — that begins a 5-game stretch that could massively affect postseason hopes. The four games between KU & that point need to be wins, otherwise it does damage.

If we start the season 3-2 I will be really excited.

We need to go 4-1 or our tournament chances go down pretty significantly. Those are four of our six most winnable games. We need to get to at least 11 conference wins to have a reasonable chance of getting into the tourney.

Well, not really. Nobody wants to play in Hilton. I'm guessing the opportunities are less than you think. Michigan only agreed to a home and home if we skipped a year in between. Virginia backed out. The best way to improve our SOS is getting into a good tourney, which you have to be either a good mid major or a top level conference team to get in. And we did play two really good teams in our tourney.

Cincinnati is blowing it. They've lost 3 home games in a row.

I'm guessing Iowa tanking to Michigan by 30 isn't helping us any.
