NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
The bad is obvious; we lost. Everything else about this game, though, was eye-openingly positive...
6 players with double-digit scoring
Ejim playing his *** off by leading the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists (19, 11, and 5)
Niang handling the starting role like he's been doing it for 4 years
Fewer turnovers than KU
I don't think you could ask for a better performance against a team with 4 starters from last year's runner-up team and an absolute stud freshman, at Allen Fieldhouse of all places. The loss stings, but man, what an effort.
We should be optimistic because A) Fred has done an amazing job getting his teams to bounce back from tough losses and focus on the next game, and B) if we play like we did tonight, Kansas might be the only team that can beat us in the Big 12.
Go Cyclones!

No moral victories, did we lose?
Then it sucks.
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
Do you guys realize the difference in this game was that ******* "Sportsmanship" technical? KU invents ways to win at the Phog.
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
Yep. Good post. And even though Lucious missed that crucial free throw at the end of regulation, I have to point out that his play was MUCH improved tonight.
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
I am encouraged. We played small ball against KU and almost beat them. Clyburn is the key, if he can be consistent, this team has a lot of upside. Ejim is a workhorse and a heck of a role player, you need someone to take clutch shots and that's gotta be Clyburn as the first option.

Yup, we lost, so we better just pack it all in and give up on the remaining 17 conference games. Cancel the Big 12 tournament, 'cause who cares. And make vacation plans for March, 'cause we sure as hell won't be playing anyone.
Come on, man.

The team will have a chip on their shoulders. We will beat KU in Ames.

Even with the tough loss, I feel better about ISU's chances to make noise in the conference this year. Hardly anybody thought ISU was going to win. I didn't. Give credit to McLemore, he's a good player.
It could have been like Iowa, taking an asswhipping to Michigan. I was disappointed at ISU in OT. They acted like they knew they were screwed after that. Maybe they were, but they panicked after the first 5 points for them.

There are dozens of things people could point to in a game this close, but I don't think a T in the first half ranks highly among them.
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
How about that 4 point play. Babb really "foulded" that guy didn't he....
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
This team could be very good. Tonight they showed a lot of their potential. They also showed a fight in them we haven't seen yet this year.
Re: NO SHAME -- A positive KU postgame thread
Ejim - Great, double double machine
Niang - Great, other than the technical and fouling out in regulation.
Lucious- Had a solid game. Few turnovers, also had only 2 assists, but that was because of how our offense was working tonight.
Babb- I don't know how to feel. Made some huge shots, but was guarding McLemore. Sometimes you can't stop a hot hand.
Clyburn- Attacked the rim in the 2nd half. 1 bad turnover, shot the ball pretty well.
Booker- Railey is proud.
Gibson- I expect more out of him. Needed to take his time in the low block.
McGee- Hit a couple early 3's. Played with good energy.
This game showed ISU has the firepower to win every game they play in. Putting up 79 against Kansas in regulation is no small feat.
Need to bounce back in Hilton this weekend and throttle Texas, and then crush the bottom dwellers of the conference.

Of course losing sucks, especially a close game in OT to a team like Kansas. I can't ask anyone to feel better about losing, but I think if you look at what this team is capable of if they play like they did tonight, you'll feel a lot better really quick. It's a long season, and it's only just begun.
Anyone know if the postgame press conference has started? Pretty anxious for it.

I agree. No moral victories. Moral victories are for losers.
Everyone is saying how much more optimistic they are now for the rest of the season, and that could be right, but I've also seen teams come off of devastating losses like this and go into a funk and a losing tailspin.
We shall see what happens? My point is that tonight is no guarantee about how we will play the rest of the way. We could just as easily resort back to how we played against Iowa again too.
As I've been saying, chances like this don't come around harldly ever. It COULD have been a program changing win, but instead is just another loss. It COULD have been the lead story on all the sports pages and ESPN. Winning at Kansas hardly ever happens. It is HUGE.
But now, it's a non-story. It's nothing more than just another KU win at home. Nothing to see here. Move along.
