I would rather Fred use his timeouts like Scott Drew. Burn all those suckers right after halftime!!

I'm not sure what Fred could have done that we didn't do, other than KL missing the front end of a 1 and 1. Things worked out the way most coaches would want. Their guy just banked in a prayer 3.

Back to the original point of this thread, I hadn't really thought about this, I was just too mad about it even getting to OT and was already writing it off as a loss. I kind of agree, after those first couple of quick scores in OT by Kansas it would seemingly have been a good time to pull everyone aside and tell them to pull their head's out.

Paul Janssen would have called a double technical on the ISU bench and Eric Heft had The Mayor tried to call a TO in that situation.

exactly. That would be like the defense calling time out in football with a 7 pt lead and less than 30 seconds on the clock. Only in extreme circumstances.

After watching the post game interviews, Hoiberg and several of the players said KU ran exactly what we thought they would run. We didn't need a time out, because he'd obviiously already addressed the situation. In that situation if the D knows what the O is going to do more often than not it works out for the good guys.

KU caught the equivalent of a 1 outer in poker. So I guess we just need to say, "That's Poker".

Exactly. It was the exact same play they ran in the '08 championship game and ISU had the first option defended well. It looks like there may have been some miscommunication on the 2nd screen. Babb may have been taken out too easily but McGee is actually standing in the lane, way too far inside when KU has to shoot a three. Even with the breakdown, the shot was a foot long and happened to bounce in. I'm still not convinced that a TO before that play would have been more beneficial for ISU than it would have been for KU.

Obviously you haven't watched a Drew coached team. He can't call all of his timeouts right after halftime when he has already called three of them in the first half.

Re: Coach caught watching the game?

So Fred calls a timeout there and Kansas goes down and makes a 3. Then what? All of these same posters who have been criticizing him for not calling a timeout would be on here questioning Fred for giving the opposition more time to figure something out. It's a no win for the coach, especially with the fickle posters on this board. IMO he did what any actual coach would have done with regards to the timeout.

    Execute him.

I'm tired of well-coached, talented teams that bring wins and pride in the team.
