But there is absolutely no comparison if you are talking Noel for one year versus Niang for 4 years. I would take Niang every time. Not even close.
Niang's basketball IQ is 10 times that of Noel. And Niang has 10 times the offensive moves and scoring ability that Noel does. Niang could easily be one of the top 10 freshmen in the entire country right now IMO.
My biggest concern with ISU next year will be our outside shooting. Yes, we will be adding Matt Thomas, who is the best shooting guard recruit in the country, but we lose McGee, Babb, Lucious, and Clyburn.... all guys that can hit the 3. Hopefully Monte Morris can shoot it pretty well from 3, and I think SDW might not be too shabby either? The 3 is such a HUGE part of our offense. Can't forget Niang either I guess, he can knock them down. It is this year because everybody can shoot it. Fred has shown a knack for coaching towards the strengths of his players. I have no doubt he will not try to fit a square peg into a round hole. We will however miss all of those guys. MCGee is unconscious when he is hot, the shots he hits typically arent that wide open and someone is in his face. I love how he takes a "heat check" shot if he is hot but typicaly doesnt force things if he isnt. He is a very nice player.

I am really excited about the leadership that Melvin and Georges will provide with next years team- both guys are about effort. Georges is a throwback - he overcomes his physical shortcomings (not great jumper and height) to be a very good post player.
I like a front court of Melvin, Georges and Percy next year. The key is finding a PG and a couple guys who can be elite 3 points shooters. Hopefully, Jones or Long can be the PG and Thomas, Morris or Dorsey-Walker being the scoring wing players. Add the JUCO players to the mix and we should be tough. Is Matt Thomas a spot up guy kind of like Scottie or is he supposed to be a Tyrus McGee type that can typically get his shot off while being guarded?

People compare him to Freddy. For you folks old enough--he is alot like Steve alford. stand-up, squared up shooter, ballhandler.
Not a bad comparison, since the Afraud was a 1st team all-american

I know it's high school but the footage I've seen looks like he can score pretty much anytime he wants to in different ways. Thomas-Niang is going to be the rock of the offense the next few years.

I'd trade him for Noel, but Kentucky would have to throw in Culley-Stein, a future first round pick, or cash.

Niang is definitely going to be my favorite player for years to come. His basketball IQ and ability to score are so fun to watch, but his toughness and swagger is what I like most about him.

Re: I would not trade Georges Niang for Nerlens Noel
NBA does not draft on how good you are in college. They draft on how good you can become in the NBA. They drafted that center from UCON last year in the lottery and ejim held him to like 4 points.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I think the real question is why wouldn't you trade Niang for the all-around, 1 and done beast that is... Adam Woodbury.

If we're just talking this year, I take Noel in a heart beat. What this team lacks more than anything else right now, IMO, is a dominating interior presence on defense. Now, if we're talking long term, obviously 4 years with Niang trumps 1 with Noel.

Re: I would not trade Georges Niang for Nerlens Noel
Georges can hoop man. Dude is as mature as I have seen a freshmen in a long time. Somewhere he had some really good coaching. Will be interesting to see how he reacts as teams adjust to him and as we get into conference season where a lot of freshmen get worn down or get scouted better.

Why would you feel a need to "trade"? I'd take Nerlens along with Georges any day...
