No silly props, no kindegarten-for-adults feel. That used to be our student section. We're getting closer, but we need more of that. We're doing a great job with our students being smart-*****, but we need a little more anger.
Their blue bloods look to be about as intense as ours.
Amen. Student sections prior to CA were 10 times better and louder.

Hmm...how can I get a job there ?
The lights we have take forever to come back on.

Duke actually couldn't fill their student section last year because they have suck a low number of students, combined with the fact that Duke was so good they just expected to win and when wins didn't come 99% of the time they didn't show.

I'm not big on leaving games early, winning or losing, but if I was in there for the "rock chalk" I'd have to leave. I have to change the channel when watching the end of a KU win. Absolutely hate that chant.

Add in noise and it would be best entrance in all of college basketball.

We can't turn the lights on because of the type of lights Hilton has. Although you would think we could design a shutter system and install a couple spotlights so that we could at least have a decent entrance. It would really improve the pre game atmosphere.
Also, regarding the "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" monk type chant, I hate it as well, but it is pretty much without a doubt the coolest chant in American sports IMO. No other chant is as distinguishable and impossible to cover up as it is.

The arenas that "turn the lights off" for intros aren't actually turning them off. The lights stay on, but have mechanical covers (shutters), so it gives the illusion of being turned off.
Something like this:

And what that company did at the Target Center:

This is a key.

Then the chant is working... It is one of the best fan traditions in all of sports.
Re: Hilton Coliseum vs Allen Fieldhouse
There is no shame in being behind AFH. That said, give ISU even a decade of the level of success KU has had and Hilton's atmosphere would be as good as any.

Maybe we can get some federal money to 'go green' and get some instant-on LED lights.
Re: Hilton Coliseum vs Allen Fieldhouse
We should do a super sped-up version of The Wave (with sound) and call it "The Cyclone". Would be awesome.
Re: Hilton Coliseum vs Allen Fieldhouse
We noticed that there did not seem to be as many children going to the game in Lawrence. But this may be due to demand and the cost of tickets, the wooden benches, or the noise level.
I have always enjoyed seeing all of the families at Hilton, and the cute outfits.
Re: Hilton Coliseum vs Allen Fieldhouse
My only question is, when Allen fieldhouse is rocking, does the gym floor actually shake? because i heard that it does at Hilton.

I hear this every year, and I'm wondering if it's true or if it's classic nostalgia (or maybe some of both). I know that the student section nowadays can be lacking on occasion, but the place was crazy last year for the Kansas and Baylor games, which were the best atmospheres in my opinion.
Since I wasn't there "back in the day", I can't know for sure, but I really doubt the student section at those games was 10 times worse than the ones from the past.

I always thought they should move the student section right behind the TV announcers desk. Based on the telecasts, you'd think that the only people who attend ISU games are the players' grandparents.
