Hoiberg on KFAN
Once again, work gets in the way of play. I was only able to hear the last half of his interview with Paul Allen.
here are some notes, hopefully someone else can fill in the first half, and of course post a link to the podcast when it's up.
- went over KU game
- expectations for the program. Hoiberg commented on being picked 8th in each of the past Big 12 seasons and how his players take it personal. Loves the direction if the program.
- talked about Matt Thomas' recent 43 and 50 pt performances and Morris' triple double. Says they can both be "big time".
- Allen asked him about Tyus Jones. Hoiberg accused him of trying to get him in trouble.
- asked him if he wants to ever get back to the NBA. Said he's really happy here, his kids see their grandparents all the time, his wife is from here, etc. I take that to mean "not until my twins grow up".

Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
I think Fred can get his NBA fix in a few years by coaching a couple olympic teams. "Missouri is free to create an enduring basketball rivalry with Auburn." -
Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
What's the Tyus Jones situation? I hadn't heard about it.
*edit* Did you mean that in jest Hoiberg said Allen was trying to get him in trouble? Confusing sentence.

Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
I think CFH will stay here longer than Rhoads will. The grandparent and wife issues are huge - if momma wants to stay and they are making "enough" money why leave? His house is just as nice as anything in a pro city plus it's only 10 minutes away from Hilton - something they can't get in a pro city with young twins. He can really build a legacy in Ames. His stability and NBA experience will attract 4 and 5 * recruits. I can see the team playing at Hoiberg Court in the distant future.

Having Fred for 10-20 years would be amazing.

Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
I think Fred stays until he thinks he can't win at Iowa State or he tires of the grind. He won't go to any other college, but the NBA will be there whenever he wants. Hell, I think if he wanted an NBA head coaching job today, he'd have it.
Hopefully, someone can post a link to the interview.
And just because I like to bring this up 3 years later, Paul Allen gave me one of my favorite Hoiberg moments after he was hired. I feel the need to share this more often than necessary. PA was on KXNO with Ken and Matt to discuss the Vikings a little while after Hoiberg was hired. If you remember, Matt had spent weeks bashing the hire and demanding a meeting with Hoiberg, etc. So they are finishing up the interview and Matt asks if PA knows Hoiberg at all and if he had any thoughts on the hire. You can tell Matt expects PA not to have ANY idea who Hoiberg is or to even be aware of the whole situation. And if he did, to think it was a terrible idea. PA started absolutely gushing about Hoiberg and how great of a hire he was going to be and how the Timberwolves were going to miss him. It was priceless. Obviously, Matt had no idea that Hoiberg and PA were actually friends.

Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
If McDoormat can do what he has done in CF and Omaha, Fred certainly can do it in Ames. Having a good offensive team will attract the recruits. The current group is setting the table.
In five years, we will be rolling on the national stage. Think Louisville, WVU in the past, ND in the past, Florida, etc. It can and it will be done if we keep marching forward.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

#1/ #2 recruit in the nation for 2014 from MSP. We recruited him early, but I don't think he was interested. PA obviously doesn't know he's not interested in ISU, but regardless Hoiberg can't comment on unsigned recruits - hence the "getting in trouble" part. Paul Allen brain fart, but kind of funny/ awkward.

hour 1 of his show is up. No interview, but PA spends some time gushing over Fred and discussing Royce Whites anxiety issues. PA_011513_HR1 - KFAN FM 100.3 -
Re: Hoiberg on KFAN
Why does anyone assume that CFH wants to coach in the NBA, even after his twins grow up???
