Do I like the ESPN guy doing basketball better than that Ubben tool just because he rates us higher? I like to think it is more readable too.

I'm one of the few that don't necessarily mind Ubben. For the most part, I think he is relatively honest and gives credit where credit is do and doesn't give credit where it isn't due. I can think of a few instances where this wasn't true on both ends of the spectrum, but for the most part, there are a lot worse imo.

As you can see, the Big 12 has 6 teams in the Top 42 for RPI right now, which if the season were to end now, could actually make a legitimate argument to get 5-6 of them in. However, these will change as the season goes on and the key for all 6 of those teams is avoiding bad losses, particularly no losses to Tech or TCU. If teams don't avoid them, we could slip to a 4 bid league, while if teams do avoid them, I could even see us as up to a 6 bid league. I know, I know, everyone would be outraged at the Big 12 getting 6 bids when we are down so much this year and would never let it happen. However, based on RPI, which the selection committee DOES use, I could see it possibly happening. No matter what happens, I see the majority of the Big 12 teams that make the tournament being relatively high seeds (bad seeds) except for Kansas. The fact of the matter is that the Big 12 has one elite team right now, no really good ones, and a bunch of decent teams. |
OU and OSU are inflated right now. I don't see either being dominate during the conference portion. They might get in but they will be on the bubble. Baylor is also going to have a hard time getting in if they don't start playing better. The only thing going for those three teams is the bottom of the Big 12 is bad this year. Of course a loss to one of those bottom teams might be their undoing as well.

I agree with this. I'm not 100% sold on either OK school.

Really think ISU needs to go 4-2 at worst through those six. I'm feeling 5-1 more likely. Protect Hilton in all three, win in Austin, and split the games in Stillwater and Manhattan.
Going to be an interesting stretch. Certainly moreso than the next two with TCU and Tech, where it feels as a fan like ISU has absolutely nothing to gain and a lot to lose.
my predictions up there....that is a very tough stretch and we'll find out if ISU is truly an NCAA team.
Re: ISU Still #2 in ESPN Big 12 Power Rankings
I've gotta admit that I'd be super happy to have us make the tournament this year and not the Hawkeyes again. I'd love it even more than last year when it happened. Granted, I live in Eastern Iowa and get super annoyed by the band-wagon on and off Iowa fans. Its ridiculous, one year, they've got to give away free ice cream, hot dogs....etc. to get anybody to come to their ghost town of games and the next year they are the new Michigan State.
Re: ISU Still #2 in ESPN Big 12 Power Rankings
I'm going to be in IC this weekend, need a Badger shirt.
Re: ISU Still #2 in ESPN Big 12 Power Rankings
I disagree. I think Kruger's coaching gets them in. They're undefeated in the conference at this point.
Re: ISU Still #2 in ESPN Big 12 Power Rankings
I still wouldn't be handing KU the title yet. Many games left and they are beatable.

While I'd still label them as an elite team right now, I 100% agree that they are beatable for sure. In fact, I'd put a lot of money on the fact that they will get handed at least one loss by somebody throughout conference play.

Duh. Hilton.
They're still the champ until proven otherwise. I'd like us to prove otherwise.

We've become so accustomed to KU winning it, everyone pencils in the title and talks about 2nd place.
I predict KU will lose at least two road games, and maybe one home game (or 3 on the road and perfect in Lawrence).
Even if that does happen, it might not be enough to dethrone the J's.
