Re: Naz Long
I think Naz will be very good player, but he just needs to slow down a little bit. He seems a little out of control when he has the ball. I love the energy on defense, but even that is a little too much and sometimes he gets out of position by trying so hard to be suffocating.
Looking forward to see him as he gets experience and gains some more confidence.

Actually the reason Fred went after him, in my opinion, so he wouldn't have to play Naz, Monte or Babu (who at the time was suspended) before they were ready. He has PG experience in college and is in the staff's plans next year.

On the otherhand...
Jones can be eligible without issue due to the fact that everyone is over-reacting about a player that left school early (probably due to making an emotional decision instead of just working out whatever issues there were...happens with kids all the time).
Bubu could play solid minutes for us in a backup role, as he's been content to do so far last year and probably this year.
Naz could move to the 2 (I think this is most likely) and score lots of buckets for us.
Monte could come in and be the starter once we start Big XII play - gonna look a little shaky at times in non-conference and everyone will be saying how he's gonna stink it up...ala Korie this year.
Bottom line is that everyone's got an opinion - however, most of us are full of crap ;-)

Re: Naz Long
It doesn't sound like Bubu will be at the TTU game, or at least that Hoiberg plans on playing him. I know in his press conference, Bubu said he was going to be ready then, but it sounds like the coaches (e.g. look at Otz's stream on Twitter) have backed off on him being ready that soon.

Re: Naz Long
His referring to Jones possibly not playing at all wasn't about him sitting on the bench, it was in regards to CW's comment last week that Jones "has a lot of work to do" in order to even make it to Ames (qualify) for 2nd semester next year.
If Jones is here, I think most of us believe he'll play a lot, we're just not sure whether he'll even be available. Originally Posted by LLCoolJansma Jones will play and probably a lot... Re: Naz Long
That's correct. We are so deep at the guard position it is really ridiculous!! Seems to be Coach Hoiberg's way. We will see at the very minimum two guards transfer after this season. I am willing to bet the farm on it..

If Jones is here, I think most of us believe he'll play a lot, we're just not sure whether he'll even be available. Yeah, I heard that too and we'll see if that will come into play. I just am going to assume that the Staff has a plan for him to get the school work completed and Jones is on board prior to accepting him on the team. This is still dependent on Jones living up to his part of the plan, but if there wasn't a reasonable expectation that he could complete it then I just don't see the staff letting him on the team. He's only been on campus to take classes for a week, it is impossible to know where he is grade wise until the summer.
Anyway, this tread is about Naz we don't need to get off on a tangent. I like Naz's size and effort, he may need some time to adjust to the system and get comfortable. Hopefully he gets a few more minutes moving forward for experience. I do suspect he may see as much time at the 2 next year as he does at the 1, especially if Jones is playing in the second semester.

Re: Naz Long
Our round ballers have the coolest names in all of NCAA. Naz Long, Georges Niang, Korie Lucious, Bubu Palo, Melvin Ejim, Tyrus McGee, Sherron Dorsey-Walker...

At times I would find myself thinking the same thing, but then I realize if he was a highly ranked pg from Detroit I would be thinking he was an underclassman with a lot of potential. Stats and his +/- are blind to such prejudice. That said, with Bubu missing so much time in the past two seasons, that potential (circa Iowa game 2011) may not be reached.

Re: Naz Long
I could see him developing into a deffensive stopper like babb. He has the height and quickness, just needs to get a little stronger and comitt to that type of role.

Is Jones practicing with the team now?

Re: Naz Long
I think Monte might see more time at the 2 rather than the 1 in his first year so as to build his confidence in scoring and being on the floor without the pressure of having to lead/direct a Div 1 team. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll get some time but it doesn't have to be in the pressure situations.

Most on here will flip out when Bubu starts to open the season, but that's what I would bet on. If Morris is good enough to beat out Bubu, to start off the year, that would mean that MM is the real deal and in that scenario, it might be hard for Jones to unseat him.
