Re: A little emotion from Fred
I would like to know how many of the people calling on Fred to "show some emotion" or "get in players faces" have any experience coaching basketball, at any level.
For the record, I have none.

He is not the type of guy that goes crazy. He is not Tim Floyd. It is just not in his character. This has 0 to do with his heart issues, it is just the type of person he is. Anyone that has met him or dealt with him knows this.
Re: A little emotion from Fred
My brother coaches high school kids who are different of course. He has said repeatedly that while he himself is not a real emotion guy, it also depends on the kid. Some respond well to it, while others play worse. I think you probably do have to keep the recipient of the message in mind as well as CFH's own personality. Can't imagine that screaming at Royce, for example, would have had a positive result.

It's a good thing that everybody with your mindset either played for Gmac or are hawkeye's.
freds right for ISU, how many refs have you got into their face on a night in and night out basis? Not nearly as many as Fred, otherwise you wouldn't be on this board. He shows emotion when he feels he needs to. I believe he has already popped his tec cherry, so **** off!
The sooner that you ignore anything that clonedude says the better.

Speaking of commentators. Doherty may be the worst I've ever heard. I wouldn't watch girl on girl porn if he was the commentator.

I coach and officiate and outside the coach feeling better, I've never seen hard evidence that getting in a player's face noticeably improves their play. Most of the time I've seen it the player gets even dumber and starts pressing.
As a coach I refuse to yell at players. People are more receptive to coaching if they respect the person trying to deliver the message. Singling out players doesn't accomplish that.
Last year I had a parent yell at me for not yelling at a kid when the kid blew a defensive assignment and gave up a go-ahead bucket with 10 seconds left. Instead of dwelling on it we went through the situation on the inbounds play and drew up our last play. We missed a jump shot and lost.
Would anything have changed if I'd blown up on the kid who blew the assignment? Maybe. Would it have been a good change? I doubt it, because he was the screener at half court and I needed him to be calm and just set his screen and not get hit with a moving screen. Fred does the same thing with players. He tries to keep them calm, make them understand their assignment and just execute. If you execute it doesn't matter that you screwed up before.

I agree......he is terrible. But the real question here is .......In your example....why would you need a commentator?

I switched to John Walters and muted him, but that was pretty annoying with the 10 second time difference.

If I could find some way to delay the radio feed so as to sync it up with the TV broadcast, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Re: A little emotion from Fred
I don't know about EMotion but I do know that if Larry Eustasy was coaching that team last nite..........
Larry would have Chewed AS* for all he was worth, I saw Larry on numerous occasions Chew AS* on his players when they had a 10 point lead because they were screwing up....Way to go Larry...
I'm beginning to think that Fred is just a little too nice to bring us another big 12 regular season title.

Re: A little emotion from Fred
Coach K was so mad at his players last night that when they got back to Durham at 1:30 in the morning, he made them practice until 5. When he didn't think his teams played well enough, LE would have practice at 5 a.m. to get his point across.
I'm not saying Fred needs to go crazy on the sideline, but maybe he needs to have a 4 a.m. practice to get his point across....

I can't tell who is running the show anymore? Because KL isn't coming out of the game until KL decides he is. That is what it has become. Naz Long must really be horrible. At least that's the message that Fred is sending him.
I will liken Fred's calm coaching to your posting. We tell you constantly how ridiculous you are and how your posts lack thought and rationality. Nothing changes. It's similar to if Fred would unleash on his team. Nothing would likely change. He would probably just make them press more and make more mistakes.

Because they had 1 bad game?
