Re: Percy and Booker
Gibson definitely hurt us today with those missed shots and wasted possessions caused by said missed shots. That being written, he is still young, so I think he'll come around sooner rather than later. Still a lot of ball left this season.
It seems at times like I'm one of the few fans left on here who still likes Booker. I know he's limited, and his time has been limited as well lately, but I like the energy he brings off the bench. He also has a decent three-point shot that can draw defenders out as well.

Re: Percy and Booker
If Gibson would just throw the ball out a few times it would make life so much easier for him. Booker is a good player to come in and play a few mins, and that is about it. Gibson will prob keep taking mins from Booker. With Bubu back the sub patern also looks to change.

If the last to years is what we can expect from Percy.... consider me unimpressed with his terrible d inability to pass and very poor rebounding

Re: Percy and Booker
I think we'll still see some games where Percy and where Booker really step up and play keys roles for us. We're a deep and diverse team. There will be nights when we need them to step up and I beileve each of them with have some key nights in the coming weeks.

This is a silly post and is why we need negative rep. back. We have a 8/9 man rotation right now; you really want two players who get good minutes off the bench to transfer so our starters can get gassed and play more minutes than they should be playing and get tired more quickly during the game? C'mon man...

Re: Percy and Booker
I agree Percy has potential and I expect him to be a key contributor next year. He's got to develop more of a complete game though. I think his offensive slump is highly correlated to him being too one dimensional. He gets the ball turns and chucks up the left handed shot immediately. Once people get that scouting report he's really easy to defend. Heck just adding a shot fake to his game would do wonders.
That and he has to learn to defend and be a bigger presence on the glass.
Melvin and Georges should spend the summer with him. Melvin getting him to rebound. Georges expanding his offensive game.

Re: Percy and Booker
While I agree that Percy could kick it out once in a while, he is supposed to be shooting when he gets the ball down low. We have basically zero low post threat inside. Niang doesn't really post up (unless there's an identified mismatch), he typically brings his guy out then drives and makes a move. Sometimes you gotta try to post someone up down low to help open things outside.
While Percy missed his shots yesterday, do you think just going inside helped soften up the perimeter D just a little? What was out 3pt FG% in the 2nd half?
Also, Fred is big on encouraging the guys to keep shooting and take open shots. Think he isn't saying the same to Percy?
He doesn't need to be perfect to contribute. Give him time, he's a soph.

Re: Percy and Booker
I think what bothers me most about Percy is that the coaches have not been able to change him. This offense is built on spacing, very quick passing until there is an open shot, and sharing the ball. When they whip the ball around the outside as rapidly as they did on occassion yesterday until someone shoots an open 3.......it's a beautiful thing to watch.
Percy's habit of as soon as he touches the ball he tries to make some left-handed post move cannot be what the coaches want every time. But why hasn't it changed? Does it mean Percy is just un-coachable (which could affect next year and his development) or is it that the coaches don't know what to do, or worse yet.....don't see the problem? It's already over 20 games into this season, counting exhibitions. I'm not sure it can change at this point.
I think Percy could be an outstanding player, and a good inside scorer.....but he has got to learn to shoot some bunnies at least with his right hand, just to throw the defense off if nothing else. He should be working on that every day in practice, yet I don't recall ever seeing him even attempting a move that would require him to shoot right-handed. Shooting only left-handed has to make him much easier to guard.
On Booker, I hate to say it, but I think he is a lost cause. He lost his playing time to Percy and Niang, and when he is in there he is not productive most times. I don't see that changing before the season ends, unless he wants it to change. To me, it is totally up to him.....at this point he is the only one who can adjust his attitude.
What is interesting is that if you look at the stats.......they are up this year for both players, over all games. However, that is more a function of an actual increase in their average playing time. In conference games only, Percy's minutes and rebounding are up, but his scoring and shooting percentage is down significantly over last year (like about 1/2 what it was last year).. For Booker, his minutes are down and all of his stats are down significantly from last year.

Re: Percy and Booker
Gibson's best moments have come when he has the low post, and Niang or White feed him from the high post. I agree he needs to do more, but lately, he has been subbing for Niang while paired with Booker or Ejim. He hasn't been getting the ball when and where he needs it

Re: Percy and Booker
Niang needs to take Percy aside and show him more variety in his post moves. Niang IMO is the most skilled big man in the country. Percy needs to work on his right hand and try to mimic some of the things Georges does in practice and hopefully by next year he'll be able to have more offensive moves to work with.

If would pass the ball out every now and then it would open up so much more for this team and himself. The guy can become a great player, but it is up to him to want to become that player.

Re: Percy and Booker
I'm sure this year has not gone as Percy had hoped. I'm sure he is searching for his role on the team and I'm sure he is pressing during the few minutes he is getting. He is only a Sophomore, that might me the toughest year for most players. Many have high expectations, but many do not play up to the expectations. We need him to improve, so he can contribute the next two years. He has the size everyone says we need, so I don't see what bashing him here will accomplish. We don't need him to transfer, we need him to get better. I'm sure Fred knows where he needs to improve and will have a plan for him during the off season.
