Re: Naz Long should be the player of the game
I was at the game, so didn't know what the heck was going on. First they added 6 seconds, and I totally freaked out, then they took off 6 seconds and brought it from 18 back down to 6 and I totally freaked out again for different reasons. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions. At least it ended up helping out the good guys.

Huge props to Naz Long for spotting it!
But shouldn't there be a Grad Assistant whose only job during games is to be looking for things like this? Watch the clock, foul counts, possession arrow, etc. If not, we are vulnerable to the worst that can happen such as the debacle at Kansas at few years ago. There are enough guys milling around the bench, surely one of them can be tasked to watch the clock.

Ok I don't want to be THAT guy, but I'm sure it would've been noticed even if Naz didn't say anything.

Re: Naz Long should be the player of the game
The real question is why the clock stopped in the first place.. an honest technical glitch or a bone-headed clock operator? I have seen ISU victims to a little "home cooking" in the past when they are on the road and the clock doesn't start immediately when the home team inbounds and has very little time left. It was like K St brought their own clock operator for that last possession.

Each has the ability to stop/start the clock.

Unless it was actually a technical problem, I assume the guy running the clock himself would have known that he screwed up and hopefully reported it. But I would not be 100% sure. There was an NCAA tourney game (probably been 20+ years) where the clock started several seconds late and a team lost a game because of it. I don't remember the specifics but I seem to recall Michigan State was involved (before Izzo). Of course that was before the days of instant replay.

I was wondering how foolproof those officials whistle packs are. Like if a fan somehow whistled or screamed at the same frequency as a Fox 40 would it trip the belt pack? Surely it's made smarter than that though.

There's a small microphone attached to the whistle, which runs down to the transmitter (belt pack).
All belt packs transmit to the main controller, which has its own start/stop switch as well. That controller is connected to the clock interface.
