Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
I respect that CW. And I apologize if my post was damaging in any way.
This is a message board and I was just stating my guess as to who would be leaving because this is a 2013 guard recruit we are courting.
I realize that we have not offered this young man yet, but the thought that Coach Hoiberg is even entertaining the thought of bringing this kid in for next year has to have people speculating.
Again, sorry if I offended anyone, or created any discontent. I will keep my opinions on possible transfers to myself, and will not voice them on this forum going forward.

I just don't think that all of this random transfer speculation does anybody any good.
At the same time, unfortunately that's the culture of college basketball anymore so I can't say that I blame you either.
But in the end, I'd encourage everyone to not go that route if possible.
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
I must be really bored at work today because I actually took the time to read all 6 pages of this thread (kudos to me I guess). Last year, we were playing this same game with debating on who was transferring when naz long signed (Railey or Sledge). Both transferred. It is way too early to speculate on anything. 1) an offer hasn't been issued. 2) for all we know he is looking to walk-on (I doubt this, but who knows). 3) someone will indeed transfer out.
Who knows and these things will work out in the end.

4 jucos in one class doesn't excite me. I look forward to watching guys like Ejim develop over 4 years. Granted, winning is my favorite thing.
PS - Fred was asked about Jones on the call-in show last night and it sure didn't sound like a sure thing at all. He didn't mention anything specifically, not even his name, but it was clear that things aren't in place for him to play yet.
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
Hoiberg is not flying to Norfolk, NE in the middle of the B12 season and right after a game unless a spot is likely to be open.
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
When was the last year that we didn't have at least 2 players transfer. That's pretty much the nature of college basketball in today's world - almost every team has at least 2 players transfer. It doesn't do any good to speculate who they might be, but a coach certainly has to be prepared when it happens.

Bubu is not going to leave ISU his senior year (assuming he is on pace to graduate), if you can take his scholarship and make the team better - why not? I am guessing CFH told him that he could have any open scholarships if there was not a player to offer that would improve the team. CFH said he would use the scholarships like he would the salary cap in the NBA, if there is a chance to make the team better - he will.

Bubu will be on scholarship next year...
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
It is the nature of college basketball for players to transfer in and out of virtually any and every program. In any given year between 10 and 11 percent of all Division I players will transfer. So, yes, there is almost a given that some players may transfer in or out of ISU's program?
But why speculate about who those players might be that MAY be leaving? What good purpose does that serve? I can't think of any. The only things that I think it can help acoomplish are bad. Who knows whether or not the speculation may or may not be the final thing that makes up the player's mind to leave? The truth is we don't know. We can speculate that players don't read this board, or that they would not make their decision partially based on fans comments, but the truth is.....that again is just more b.s. and speculation. We really don't know.
These players have chosen ISU. They came to ISU because they wanted to be a part of what they saw here. They are here working their tails off in practice, sometimes for little or no playing time on the floor, going to class, trying to keep their grades up, and hopefully doing their very best to stay out of trouble off the court.
As fans, can't we at least give them the respect for what they are doing, and address the issue of a transfer when it actually is announced?
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
Looks like we need to study the people on the bench who might transfer at each game and then start a thread.
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
Not trying to knock on Bubu at all. The point is that he has been a significant player while not holding a scholarship before. I don't see why it's so far fetched to think of him not being on scholarship. He's done it before and embraced it. Why not do it again to allow for more talent to come to Ames?
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
I heard Hoiberg is going to the Nba and is looking for a player-coach to replace him.

You really think Hoiberg would reward a player with a scholarship and take it away for some random JUCO who may not even play over him? Especially after he lost half a season for what was apparently no reason at all.
Just no.

This is stupid. You do not pull a scholarship from a walkon who earned it, especially if that scholarship comes from a guy who you needed minutes from at the same situation. That's just talking about basketball. Bubu also lost a half season for what appears to be no reason at all.
Re: RECRUITING: Neb. JUCO G gets visit by Hoiberg, will take unofficial
Wasn't bubu's scholarship originally just because we had an extra one for a semester? Then CFH let him keep it for this year, but the whole suspension thing happened. I wouldn't be shocked if he went back to being a walkon. Especially since he is academically great and his parents are affiliated with ISU. I'd be surprised if he's ever paid even half tuition.

That's because Fred can't talk about specific recruits or mention names...that's a big no-no as far as the NCAA is concerned...
