Still going to Tourney

Hey all I'm saying is you go match up some of the resumes of the 3,4,5,6 teams in the A 10, MWC, and PAC and it's pretty close... Outside of 2 teams in the Big 10 it's a gauntlent night in and night out in the Big 10.

But you weren't saying that. You were saying pretty confidently that the A-10 and Pac-12 were better conferences than the Big 12. And he proved you wrong.

Check the standings, if there is a big separation between the top 6 and the bottom 4 at the end like there is now, i could see 6 teams, especially with the weak bubble this year

There have been many years when it comes down to selecting a 5th and 6th place team (ISU and OSU) they look how they have done against each other. It is wishful thinking that all six go to the dance. After all, double digit losses is not that impressive resume. We have to do better than what we are doing now. Holding serve at home will not do it. Additionally we will also have to beat Kansas at Hilton and get some road wins.

I doubt if the Big 12 gets 6 in. I don't know why everyone thinks that? That is no given whatsoever. This is a bad conference this year folks. I'm not sure we'll be rewarded with 6th?

I ALWAYS go back to that year we faked the extra point against Nebraska in football and went for the win instead of OT, and had the guy wide open in the endzone, but didn't convert it. I said afterwards that not converting that two point conversion might just cost us a bowl game. Nearly EVERYONE on these boards was saying it would have been a nice win, but it wasn't critical because we still had 3 more games left in the season to get our 6th win.

Well, unfortunately, we went on to lose out that year and miss a bowl game by one game.

I'm not saying we won't make the tourney, but you have to capitalize on these opportunities when you have them or they will almost always come back to haunt you. You can't let them continue to slip away.

People say 6 because if you look at the standings that appears to be a very good dividing line, while there isn't much difference from teams 3-6.

And yes, I do understand that if we lose a lot of close games we will not be in the tourney, and I do understand that the difference between making the tourney and not may only be two or three possessions from the whole year.

This game obviously wasn't even close to as bad of loss as Texas Tech but it stings for me worse because we showed up ready to go and played so well for most the game only to lose it in final two minutes. You can look at all our conferences losses and say what if. Fortunately there are enough opportunities left for us to make up for them.

That would put us at 22-9 (12-6). If this happens (which I doubt), then we are in. More likely we will need to win a couple games in the Big 12 tourney to get in the NCAA.

Okay, let's do just that...

The 4th team in the A-10 is George Washington. They're 1 game above .500, with an RPI of 114. They've lost 7 games to teams with an RPI of 50 or more. Now let's stack them up against the 4th best team in the Big 12...Kansas State. Who do you think would win?

Oh, that's right, K-State already did.

With this record, this is not a tourney team. ISU needs to actually win a game on the road. Even just watching them, I'm not convinced they're a tourney team. Turnover prone, bad interior defense.. all the things that we saw at the beginning of the year, although at times they've played better. And thank God for Niang, this offense wouldn't move at all without him.

It's gonna be down to the wire, and a few rolls of the ball are going to decide it for these 4 teams in the middle of the Big XII.

K State is the number 2 team... Baylor is 4th.

Then they must have won tonight. Good for them, it's probably because they're a pretty damned good basketball team that could be one of 6 in the Big 12 that plays in the tournament.

The Pac 12's bottom half screws their conferences RPI over for them. You look at the teams that actually have a shot at the tourney in the middle of the pack and it's very very similar. For instance the 3 and 4 teams in the Pac 12 are Arizona and Arizona St and no doubt I take those 2 in over Oklahoma and Baylor.

You'd rather have Arizona State, with an RPI of 60 over either Oklahoma (RPI of 23) or Baylor (RPI of 32)? Interesting...

Not to mention Tech and TCU's RPI (197 and 229) are worse than the Pac-12's bottom (159 and 180). So if the bottom is pulling down the conference RPI of Pac-12, then you must apply the same logic to the Big 12. Any way you slice it, the Big 12 is still better than the Pac-12 this year.
