turning over the ball three times in the last 1:30 is what ****ed us...that and the immediate foul that was called after.

No, it wouldn't have changed anything but it would be better for them to own up to their mistakes. At the very least I wish the would transcribe that conversation so we could see why they called what they did.
All that would do is stir up more controversy. The referees shouldn't be accountable to fans, that isn't their job. If Fred has a question he has the e-mail address and phone number to contact both the officials themselves as well as the Big 12 offices.

Bottomline: we have to learn to close-out games we are leading which includes clamping down on defense. We had some major lapses down the stretch that had nothing to do with the officials.
You can always point to crap calls on both sides throughout a game, but last night the crap calls down the stretch all went against us. The foul on the Ejim block was bad, but even worse was with just under 2 minutes we had a 4 point lead, Ejim gets the rebound, is hacked accross the arms by somebody while Forte rips the ball away. On the winning bucket there should have been a 5 second call as Clyburn was close for at least 8 seconds, and then the force out against Tyrus with 1,7 seconds left cost us free throw attempts. Sure we could have made a couple more plays that may have won the game, but last night the officials calls and non calls in the last couple of minutes clearly gave Oky State opportunities they should not have had and took some away from us we should have had.

Tyrus going out of bounds shouldn't have been whistled. His momentum carried him there.

Smart did get Ejim but the official was behind it so he couldn't see it. Forte flat out ripped it with just tells me Ejim needs to rebound and hold it with more authority (or just hold it over the OOB line so they can't reach it without fouling).

The Clyburn call I'd have to rewatch. That's a really, really tough call to make.

Ejim's 4th foul was an atrocious call.

Re: John Walters yelling at ref over radio

I switched to Walters in the second half because the homer TV announcers got on my very last nerve. Why does every single one of our games seem to start with, "and Dumb *** Announcer Dude who played at [insert opposing team] back in the day . . ."? If only the radio wasn't 10 seconds ahead of the TV. No other way to describe Ejim foul but Phantom Foul unless Walters wanted to bleep himself.

Most people in the crowd could get 95% of the calls right. Most calls in basketball are obvious. What you really want is for the "professionals" to get most of the other 5% of the calls right, to understand the rules better than most of the crowd and to exercise judgment properly (ie don't call meaningless fouls, dont call meaningless 3 seconds, and to call obvious 5 second closely guarded!)

No matter how much training you give someone in a sport like basketball, there is far too much room for judgment calls. The best the Big 12 can do is get 3 like officials together. If there are 3 guys who like to let teams play, put them on a crew. If there are 3 who like the sound of their whistles, put them together. Try to get consistency within the crew to minimize issues. They're going to get calls wrong, but 95% of the time they're correct.
You mean people in this thread might have a certain bias???

I've noticed there are never any ex-ISU players as announcers. Scottie, perhaps?

So put him on TV. Cause every game we have on TV, it's a former Kansas coach, Okie State player, etc. Never an ex Cyclone on TV.

Fred, Tyrus and me are going to disagree. Tyrus was quoted in the paper today saying he was pushed out. I also was mad at Mel for not being stronger with the ball until I saw the replay, and saw Oky State (Smart) hacking Mel accross his arms as Forte ripped it out, otherwise I doubt he gets it away from Mel. Maybe the closest official didn't see it but I would hope one of them would have. I'll have to watch the replay on the last Smart basket again too, but I was screaming for a 5 count for about 3-4 seconds, and I'm not sure the official was ever even counting. Again I can't imagine not getting all of those calls at Hilton, and I guess that's why Fred said after the game that we have to be 10 points better than the opponent to win on the road. That's why any Big 12 road win is big, no matter who it's against.

Did he do national broadcasts for the public and not ISU-focused broadcasts?
