Where was the 5 second call on OSU's last possession?

It seemed like Clyburn was guarding their guards dribble for about 10 seconds before he made the winning shot.

If you look at the replay the ref separated 1-2 times. IMO the ref gave Smart way to much love on that last play. The rule is 3-5 feet, but varies per situation and ref. And you are NOT Getting that call on the road in a tie game with under 10 seconds left.

I agree you don't get that call. But the ref reset the count when Clyburn was still close enough to touch the guy. Total BS.

There have been other posts that say it is about how far apart their feet are. That seems kind of dumb because it would be easy for either guy to lean forward and touch the other with their feet 5 feet apart. I think distance apart of torsos would be more appropriate.

Rux, any explanation of the rules on this one?

He didn't get the call but that was some pretty good on ball defense up until the screen. I don't know who was guarding Cobbins there but if we would've hedged on the screen we may be having a different conversation.

Then again, if the refs didn't change the way they called the game for the last 3 minutes and then drop their pants in the last 20 seconds we would be having a different conversation today.

The college and high school rules are different in the area of closely guarded so off the top of my head I cannot help, especially without having seen the play. But I will see what I can find out and get back.

EDIT: I found out the NCAA rule is now the same as NFHS. "Holding or dribbling in front court at six-foot distance."

More OT, Women's college is three feet and ONLY when the ball is not being dribbled.

Not sure how this wasn't a 5 second call, then. Clyburn was within arm's reach the whole time. I know his arms are long, but damn..

in Highschool the rule distance is followed more closely. I really don't like 6 feet to be honest. Especially in some really small gyms. 6 feet away is not even playing defense. Most Refs understand the situation and its up to the ball handler to watch the refs to make sure he separates to break the count.

IMO Clyburn had the 5 second call.
