Remember there were two different attempts due tio the squirely refs.

I'm beginning to think he could almost go down as my favorite Cyclone of all time.... and he's a JUCO transfer and doesn't even start. But I just LOVE guys that bring that kind of energy to the floor. When he started throwing his arms in the air to get the crowd pumped up, and followed that up by licking his hands and wiping the bottoms of his shoes with them as he got down in his defensive position.... I wanted to put a uniform on myself and go out there and join him.
The guy is just an amazing energy boost to the entire team and the fans. Every team needs a guy like this IMO. I'm finding it hard to come up with another Cyclone from the past with this kind of energy and excitement? Maybe Curtis Stinson, but he was more laid back IMO. Lafester Rhodes? Elmer Robinson?
McGee was struggling with his shot yesterday, so what does he do.... he gets his points in the paint off of huge offensive rebounds and putbacks. His vertical jump must be unreal. He also had an incredible block, but the official called him for a foul on it. He just gives it his all, all the time. I love it!
Without him yesterday, as in most games, we would have a hard time winning. I liked both Lafester & Elmer, but I wouldn't compare them to Tyrus. Lafester wouldn't play defense even if you held a gun to his head. You know how he scored all those fast-break points? By darting downcourt while the shot was leaving the opponent's fingertips. And Elmer? Great player, but not exactly "Mr. Selfless" for the team. I can remember one televised game during Elmer's second year where the TV camera caught Johnny in a timeout huddle shouting "Dammit Elmer Would You PLEASE Wake UP!"
I would compare Tyrus to players like Kantrail Horton, Howard Eaton, Paul Doerrfeld (the king of taking charges), and Jacy Holloway. Solid guys who gave it their all every game. Tyrus gets more props than any of them ever did, but he also hits more big shots. He's going to be the most missed player in '13/14, IMHO.
