Re: Okoro and Dorsey-Walker?
This thread is ridiculous! So much negative rep must be given out. Do people seriously not understand that we needed transfers to get going right away and will now heavily recruit high school players? SDW is ranked 125ish but wasn't going to see playing time this year. This is because he needs a little more beef and look at the guards we have in front of him. Smart choice by Fred. And to go with that we have a top 50 shooting guard who is tabbed as one of the if not the best shooter in the 2013 class, a point guard ranked top 85 in the next class and in the 2014 class we have a top 100 point guard. Seriously do some research and give the guy some time to develop and get his hs recruits to campus before you start judging him saying he can't evaluate guard talent.
As for Okoro he may take a little while to develop but I think eventually he will contribute as a good defender. He's got great size but wasn't expected to make a big impact immediately. Bubu has been playing great, anybody who says otherwise is not watching the games. He puts in great minutes, doesn't turn the ball over, and is an excellent on ball defender.
Rant over...some people...

It may have felt like it at the time, but Staiger was no real loss. Chewie would have screwed things up anyway. The lazy no-D German is better off in the Fatherland.

I wouldn't write him off yet. He'll be a pretty good player for us before it's all said and done. Just look at the improvement that Bubu has made. He's actually turned into a legit B12 player, and Naz probably has showed better skills at this point.
He's got good size... he can shoot ok.... he's strong.... he can handle.... I see him getting at a minimum 10-20 min/game the next 3 years.
Re: Okoro and Dorsey-Walker?
Oh, and if you're expecting every freshman to come in and have an instant impact, you are going to be disappointed most of the time. We aren't KU or UK (yet). The recruiting is getting better and we will start to see more production, but to expect it from Okoro and SDW already is kinda silly.

Oh no, I still believe he has a good future ahead of him. I was just expecting the next DG, which was unfair to him.
Re: Okoro and Dorsey-Walker?
I am thankful that our team is good enough that Naz, Okoro, and SDW don't have to play as freshmen. If they are willing to stay and work their butts off, I'm sure Fred has a plan to make them all good players. The threads questioning Fred's ability to coach and identify players are just stupid at this point. He has had a plan from day one and it has worked great. Our program was in real trouble before Fred came back. No way anyone could have predicted the success we have had this quickly.
Re: Okoro and Dorsey-Walker?
Fans from other teams in the Big 12 know that Fred is an up and comer. He knows what he is doing. Every recruit WILL NOT pan out, however. I have no idea if any of those are on the current squad though

This is a well-reasoned post. I too am glad that Fred's program means that our Freshman do not have to come in and contribute immediately. D. Garrett had to do so and made the same critical mistakes in crunch-time situations for three years.
Did any of you watch Naz Long handle the ball late in the game? He blew past the OU defenders getting the ball up-court. I think he can flourish as a combo guard, especially as he develops a reliable outside shot. Naz can give us what Bubu is doing now. Solid play that allows others to rest their legs.
SDW needs time to get bigger and stronger. Okoro too can use this year as a learning opportunity. It is a positive thing that we have enough quality depth ahead of these guys that they do not need to contribute a Freshmen.
Having a Freshman contribute like Georges Niag has done is icing on the cake. It can't be a standard expectation for all freshmen, or we aren't going to be very good. Noow,if we can get even one Freshman each year to contribute as Georges has, we are going to be scarrry good.

This. Good job ag.

And if not redshirted where would his minutes come from? We had 9 guys with real game contributions last night.

DG didn't really blossom till the tail end of his career.
Re: Okoro and Dorsey-Walker?
Agree. I wish nothing but the best for Okoro and Dorsey-Walker in Cyclone uniforms going forward!!
