No one stands and yells the whole game. Maybe a couple people doing that could help change the culture. If people are upset about the cell phones maybe call out the people who are using them during the game. Maybe try getting drunk and being a dick to the opposing team.
I'm just tired of hearing how bad everything is. I want to see some of these people do something constructive to make it better.

I'm just tired of hearing how bad everything is. I want to see some of these people do something constructive to make it better. I wasn't complaining...only pointing out something I noticed as a student. Cyclone Alley was never needed; nothing was wrong with the student section when it was created.

Disclaimer: I really could care less, I have no problem with CA and I like the fact that I have gotten food at two game watches, a shirt, megaphone, flag and a cup with free drinks from the concession stand all for the $20. I just thought I would clarify some stuff because I know it frustrates the committee people to hear stuff that is not true.
1. There is NO shirt requirement.
2. Cyclone Alley was created by athletics. The lady who created it now holds a very senior position in the department. So for those of you wanting it disbanded, you would need to convince some people very high in the AD.
3. CAC does not police the student section. My friend has never taken on any sort of policing role and has never seen or heard of other CAC members doing it. He actually wishes more people would be crazy, obnoxious, rowdy and energetic. You probably recall the “Hilton After Class” event. They were trying to encourage people to drink, though they could not “officially” say it because CAC is part of both athletics and the alumni association.
4. I can see where people get irritated that CAC gets front row seats, but there are 11 people on the committee. They take up 5 seats on one side and 6 on the other. They do not routinely save seats either. My friend told me he can’t save me seats when I asked.
5. CAC are die hard basketball fans. I know some of you on here think that all they care about is putting this on their resume, but that is not the case. Keep in mind that these people attend EVERY SINGLE men’s AND WOMEN’s game. They arrive 1.5 hours early, stay after, have a weekly meeting and several office hours each week. There is probably other stuff to that I don't know about.
6. CAC actually loves new ideas! You guys would be surprised how much pull that they have with athletics. If you actually have a good idea, tell them and it has a really good chance of happening.
The most interesting thing I found out talking to my friend was that something like 150 people applied for CAC and obviously on 11 were selected so it would not surprise me if the people whining on here are just bitter.
Okay that’s all. Unleash the fury and spread the hate…. Misconception... It didn't cost $20. It was included in the price of the all sports package. So it was "free".
Anyways, it sounds like you are saying that they don't do much of anything besides give out trinkets based on attendance, and put on silly timeout promotions. Is that a fair assessment? Or is there something I am missing that they do?

I'm sure it's been covered before, but why was it better before CA? Just the CA activities during the game?

Re: Cyclone Alley confusion
Does anyone know if some of the better student sections in the nation (Cameroon Crazies, Izzone, The Show) are Student ran or are they just free for alls?

Here's the Izzone contract: Most notably the T-shirt rule, no inappropriate language, and no one under the influence of alcohol (of course, I highly doubt they enforce the last two) http://www.saf.msu.edu/programs/2012...20Contract.pdf
Edit: Beat me to it

I just don't think that the 6 students who run CA are the problem. I think it's the other thousands. You don't have to wear a name tag to be a leader.

Or is there something I am missing that they do? Ha even I don't have all the facts straight. I went to the game watch at Johnny's in Hilton and it included all you can eat hickory park and free drinks so I thought that was really cool. I also really liked the five free drinks as one of the reward levels that was probably a $15 value.
I guess my problem is the fact that everyone complains about CAC, but I just don't see how it changes anything. If you want to start a cool chant, you are totally free to. You do not need CAC approval or involvement. If you want to do something crazy, go for it! Nothing is stopping you. CAC provides benefits such as the rewards program, game watches, a t-shirt, etc, but it doesn't stop or prevent anything. Would the student sections really be that different if we took away 5 people sitting in the front??

All I will say is, as a student who experienced no CA, 1/2 CA, and all CA, the student section was BY FAR the best when there was no CA. I was a student at the same time and I agree completely. When it was split, the difference was very obvious. Non CA was the place to be. Go back to a split and just watch, it will prove itself.

Yes, except for the fact that CAC does not stop/discourage you from doing anything like your parents probably did. They do not supervise the student section and couldn't care less if you showed up drunk/crazy. If you were behaving in a way that was needed dealt with, it would be something that police/security/event staff would deal with not CAC.
