Maybe it's one of those deals of "If you don't use it, you lose it" and his right hand is slowly deteriorating. The cast helps it stay in the right position otherwise it would become all deformed.
I know people hate attacks on players and this isn't meant as an "attack" but...geez, he is a liability on both sides of the ball. He literally is a vacuum on offense. He either gets the ball and has NO intentions of passing it, or just sucks the rhythm out of the offense. Seriously, just awful....
