I don't think Royce was the reason. I remember him hitting plenty of hook shots over his right shoulder.
I think Gibson's main problem is that he is fatter this year than last year without gaining any strength (harsh sounding but it's the truth). He gets knocked off balance super easy because of this and doesn't have the strength to finish.
I look at Gibson's frame and muscle mass and think with his build he should be playing at 230, not 260.

Probably has something to do with both. There's no way you can say that Royce being there didn't make life easier on everybody last season, especially a guy like Gibson who the other team just basically ignored.

I don't think Hoiberg knows what to do with bigs. It gets more and more obvious every game.
Are you talking about the big who had 20 points and 16 rebounds last night, or the big that is having a breakout freshman year?
are you also concerned that Hoiberg can't recruit guards? Quit trolling

Ive heard a few people with the opinion that Niang could be a potential one and done if he was playing next to Royce this season.

No, I don't. But if Hoiberg didn't want him on the team at this point in his career, why does he still suit up? There is no next year for the guy. Cut your losses, and then everyone will know.
Re: Booker's post game tweet
Percy needs to stop trying to create his own shot. Starting to think those circus shots he made last year were more luck than anything else.
Too bad he doesn't realize that his ability to rebound aggresively and play defense is really what the team needs from him. Instead he sucks on the D end and trys to create himself really bad shots on a team FULL of explosive offensive players.

Does Niang play like a big? What big has Hoiberg had that actually played like one and played it well? Royce was not a true inside player. Neither is Niang. Maybe you should watch them play a little, and you might know something other than a box score.

Agreed, but it seems like Ejim is doing just fine without Royce, as are others.

Royce plays on the outside well, but he was a dominate player on the block

Yes
Ejim, Georges, Royce(at times), Gibson(last season).
Don't let a pesky thing like stats get your in the way of making your opinion. Are you brand new to basketball? Or brand new to ISU basketball? These are the best bigs ISU has had in a long time.

Ejim isn't a big. He's been thrown into that position and he's playing his butt off, but he doesn't have the size to block the shots of or deter penetrators (which should be obvious from the way ISU is abused in the paint) or the size to finish on offense in a crowd of bigger players.
Last night, in OT, Ejim got the ball, put his defender on his back, and was two feet from the basket, with defenders closing in. He passed out for three that was missed. And I don't blame him for passing out, because his shot would have had a good chance of being blocked by the bigger defenders. With a true big, at a minimum, that play should have resulted in 2 FT attempts, and more likely a dunk and chance for a 3pt play. On another occasion in OT, Ejim was driving for a dunk and got blocked from behind by UT's center (who isn't exactly have jump-out-of-the-gym capability). Another time in OT, he got pushed to the floor fighting for position, which resulted in a TO.
Ejim is playing his heart out at a position that he doesn't have the size and strength for right now. I sincerely hope he is being forced to play post because of the issues with Booker and Gibson, and that Hoiberg doesn't expect a 6'6" 230 pound kid to enforce the post in the Big 12.

go look at other big 12 teams rosters, Ejim isn't nearly as undersized for the 4 as you think he is.

Yeah and the way Iowa State plays, seeing big 7-footers doesn't really help you much. I mean look at the good Missouri teams a few years ago. 6-8 or so was about as big as they got.

We have ONE guy good at defense over 6'5 on the team and that is Ejim. Right now I would settle for a couple great 6'8 defenders.

And I'm pretty sure that's why see Fred recruiting JUCO bigs that can come in next year and help out defensively.
