Why is it so difficult to say Iowa State?

Seriously, Iowa State is in the Big 12 and has been relevant the past few years in basketball and football. Yet, somehow national sports 'experts' still can't consistently say the name right. Trent Johnson called us the Hawkeyes, Pablo Torre on Around the Horn called us UNI yesterday, and Michael Wilbon called us Ohio State today. I don't understand what's so difficult about getting the name right.

same reason I dont know the difference between la-monroe and la-lafayette and la tech. important in home state worthless elsewhere.

I understand your point but which power conferences do La-Monroe and La-Lafayette play in again?

dont know. bottom dwellers like us need about 5 straight good years in both fb and bb for those errors to end.

I can't think of another school in the country where this happens. People seem to keep Kansas and Kansas State straight. Then again, I'm biased, and I make sure I get the schools right since I know what it's like to be called by my rival's nickname.
