We Iowa State fans should not be upset!!!

Especially after going through the McDermott years at Iowa State!!!

McDermott had talented teams that failed big time and never won more then 6 games in conference and Hoiberg has done it twice now in 2 of his 3 years!!!

Thats is saying something for a coach with only 3 years of coaching experience unlike McDermott who has how many years!!!

Im upset mainly because we've had 4-5 point leads with less then 2 minutes to go in 5 of our losses. This team has no testicular fortitude and pisses games away and they don't play defense (except Babb). Crap Im pretty sure we could get 5 guys from this site and i bet 2 or 3 of them could drive the lane for an uncontested layup against them.

I am guessing not. We have 4-5 point leads because the guys are playing at their best and we dont have the athletes or talent that other schools have. When it comes down to crunch time the rise up and we have failed to. Lucious hits his free throws at the end of EITHER KU game and we win. That's how close we are but we just dont have the athletes to make the stops at the end. My opinion only.

It's easy to get disappointed and I fall into that trap a lot.

But you are right. Even if we don't win another game, this will likely be the best season since 2002 other than 2005 and last year.

In the McDermott years we lost heartbreakers like we've had on the road this year at home.

It's Hoiberg's 3rd year. I love the recruits he has coming in. I think he is a darn good coach. I think the defense is a problem, but one that he can and will address.

Go ahead and be upset. Losing stinks, and today's effort was horrible. That said, today's effort was in no way normal for this team.

We can actually be upset with melting down or flipping out completely. Well, we should be able to

I don't think there is anyone that has a functional mind that isn't happy Fred is our coach, but we don't judge his success on McDermott because that was the low point in recent Iowa State basketball. As a fan I am just frustrated when a talented team that can compete with anyone in the nation on some nights has games like we did today. In a season like this(not just ours but NCAA as a whole) i don't linger on it and just move to Ok St because a win there solves a lot of problems

I can't complain if ISU goes to a bowl and the NCAA tournament in the same year.... Even the NIT isn't bad historically speaking. This team is close to being special, let's see what happens.

I understand the premise of what the OP is saying. We should never lose sight that we could be McDermot-bad, but I don't think that means we can't be "upset" because we could've had a very special season this year if not for some unfortunate bounces.

When it all comes down to it, if we make the NCAA tourney, I will be pleased with this team. If don't make it, I won't be. It really is that easy. Give yourself a chance to be something special. NIT makes me want to puke.

I have a tough time blaming the players for ISU late game woes. IMO the coaching staff has not instilled a defensive work ethic that is necessary to become an elite Big12 team, that can win on the road and grind out the close games.
