CFH As A Motivator
I have a friend who commented to me that, while he thinks Hoiberg is an exceptional coach, he doesn't believe the coach is that great of a motivator. I am inclined to agree, but wanted to hear other opinions. There's no doubt he has an amazing basketball mind and is a great play-caller and schemer, but what about as a motivator? I feel that if he were a great motivator we wouldn't struggle so much to close out games and finish ball games. Just wondered what others thought. Cheers.

Re: CFH As A Motivator
mcdoormat was a ****** motivator, fred is damn fine as it goes, screaming at your team and getting red in the face =/= motivation
"Day after day, situation after situation you do things the right way. If you do things the right way, in life, you are going to be successful. I'm not just your football coach; I'm not just here to win games. I could not be prouder of who we are and who we are becoming, together. You do things right in the classroom, off and on the field; that's whats's makes us Cyclones and that's what our culture's all about."

Re: CFH As A Motivator
I completely disagree...when you have over 30 games in a season you don't need a rah-rah type of leader. You want somebody even keel like CFH is and I think the players appreciate that. Motivation isn't the problem in close losses, we have just come up a play short a few times. If you're relying on your coach to fire you up at the end of a tight game then you might be in the wrong place as a major D1 bball player...

I guess I compare Hoiberg to Rhoads and think that it's no contest as far as his players wanting to play and win for him.

Re: CFH As A Motivator
Since we come out flat about twice a season, I'd have to say that the players do seem consistently unmotivated.
I think the competitiveness that we show in about every game regardless of the opponent helps to paint the picture of Fred as a poor motivator.
I can't believe we're even having this discussion.

Hoiberg seems to be doing okay. I mean, I want an undefeated season as much as anyone, but come on.

Re: CFH As A Motivator
Really? Hoiberg instills more confidence in his team than anyone. Yelling doesn't equate to motivation. Hoiberg has "motivated" his team to finish significantly higher than predicted the last two years. Our late game execution has nothing to do with motivation.

Re: CFH As A Motivator
Unless you've spent time in practice or the locker room how would anyone know how successful of a motivator Hoiberg is?

Re: CFH As A Motivator
Just because Fred doesn't blow up and look like a complete d-bag on the sidelines does not mean he isn't a good motivator. It's about wanting to play for your coach, and all of these guys want to play and succeed for Freddy. So therefore, I disagree with your statement.

Re: CFH As A Motivator
They seemed pretty motivated to win the last two games. Kansas looked pretty unmotivated against Baylor, but that doesn't mean that Bill Self is a bad coach. These things are up to the team

I'll take a focused team. Our guys seem to be most nights
