ISU everyones upset pick
I dont know if it is a good thing or not but there is a lot of reporters on different yahoo sites and college sites that have Iowa State as there upset pick throughout the tourney. I think it is great the ISU is getting all the national pub about being this years cinderella but could it be the kiss of death.
Is this in response to iowa states big monday game against KU that everyone seen us knock down 17 threes in one game
whats everyones response good to be everyones upset pick or bad??

It scares me more than it encourages me

Pundits, talking heads, and columnists can pick whomever they want as long as none of the players are listening to that garbage. It's great to have the publicity, but it's only really worth anything if the team follows through with a win (or six).

When Iowa State gets hyped up and picked to win, often time it results in a loss (see examples all over the place in multiple sports). When they are ignored or underrated, they rise up and win.

Agree with Tejas, what the experts pick should have nothing to do with what happens on the floor. Play free and easy, let the Hoiball flow and we will prove them right. But them picking us is not a kiss of death or a guarantee of anything, it is about the players/coaches doing their thing.

Is a 7/10 really even an upset?

Rece Davis just said he had us in the Elite 8 in his bracket on Sports Center after Bilas said we were his lower seeded team to watch out of the West.

I have us in the final four and the only time I felt like I was stretching was the OSU game. Otherwise I thought it was pretty do-able.

Ignore the seed number and focus on national perception of the teams involved.

Re: ISU everyones upset pick
ISU is a hot pick simply based on the style they play. We have seen it in previous tournaments with other teams that are loaded with 3 point shooters. If a team like that gets hot shooting the ball they are a nightmare for other teams in the tournament. Combine that offensive scoring ability (ISU is 4th nationally in scoring) with the potential matchups that ISU would have in the West Region and it is easy to identify. Notre Dumb plays slow (101st in scoring), Ohio State plays slow (110th in scoring), New Mexico plays slow (172nd in scoring), Wisconsin plays slow (206th in scoring), etc...
ISU has the firepower to make a run against teams that don't score the ball as well. If the Clones can at least play some defense they could make a run.

Defense is the key, offense is fairly easy for this Cyclone team and they shouldn't get too worried about that. The other side is if they allow really physical play. I don't know about the history of the NCAA, but it used to be that the Big 10 would have trouble in the NCAA because they relied on physical play, and the NCAA games were called closer than Big 10 games. I hope that trend continues.

I hope that trend continues. The Big Ten has had some very good teams over the years but there is a reason that they have won exactly 1 National Championship since 1989. They can play rugby ball in their conference games but that doesn't fly in the NCAA Tournament.
