Well most have insane deadlines to meet...Meaning their story has to be done by the time the game is over. It's brutal. Luckily for me that isn't the case with web.

But if a game gets over at midnight, we'll all be up working till 3 or 4 a.m. Not ideal.

Oh man, I guess I forgot about those deadlines when I was an intern doing High School sports writing. But the games I covered were over by 10pm anyway. Good luck Chris!

I'm waiting for the day when one of these thoughts is:

    3. I think I left my oven on. Crap.

Not that Dayton is really bad, but I was surprised Dayton was hosting the round of 64 NCAA tourney games. I live about an equal distance from Dayton, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati. I almost never go to Dayton, Indy and Cincy have so much more to offer.

One good thing about Dayton is that the arena is small, so it should be good for watching the games.

I remember reading that Dayton made a deal that they get the round of 64 every 7 years or something like that if they continue doing well for the play-in games.

Not good news comparing ND to Kansas State, but I dont' think ND is quite as good as K State and we did beat them once.

We beat K State. K State was beat by a fast KU team three times.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

I agree, they may be similar but K-State is a better team than ND. I also think it's dangerous to compare ND to a team we have played. Remember our reaction to ND coaches comparing us to Villanova? We are almost nothing like them, I am guessing ND would say the same about the K-State comparison. Just gotta play our game and if we hit shots and hustle on defense we will advance.

Re: BLOG: 10 thoughts from the "Gem City"

Dayton is known as the "Gem City." The origin of the nickname is uncertain, but several theories exist. In the early 19th century, a well-known racehorse named "Gem" hailed from Dayton. In 1845, an article published in the Cincinnati Daily Chronicle by an author known as "T" stated:
"In a small bend of the Great Miami River, with canals on the east and south, it can be fairly said, without infringing on the rights of others, that Dayton is the gem of all our interior towns. It possesses wealth, refinement, enterprise, and a beautiful country, beautifully developed."[44]

In the late 1840s, Major William D. Bickham of the Dayton Journal initiated a campaign to officially nickname Dayton as the "Gem City". The name was eventually adopted by the city's Board of Trade several years later.[44]

Paul Laurence Dunbar referred to the nickname in his poem, "Toast to Dayton", as noted in the following excerpt:

She shall ever claim our duty,
    For she shines--the brightest gem
That has ever decked with beauty
    Dear Ohio's diadem.[45]
Dayton also plays a role in a nickname given to the state of Ohio – "Birthplace of Aviation". Dayton is the hometown of the Wright Brothers, aviation pioneers who are credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane. After their first manned flights in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, which had been chosen due to its ideal weather and climate conditions, the Wrights returned to Dayton and continued testing at nearby Huffman Prairie.[46]
