I just don't think it makes sense to say that years in a system isn't really an argument. I know it is a different sport than we are talking about right now, but how would you explain the turn of events that is happening for Louisville football? They went 12-1 last year got almost everyone back from last years team, including one of the preseason heisman favorites, they got a highly wanted up and coming coach and this year they end up 6-6? Years in a system, and how they fit the system is definitely meaningful in sports. Turnover of players I agree with, because its a talent issue and that depleted our talent. Thats totally different than the system. Bad players don't fit in any system, because they can't execute period.
I don't think football and basketball are comparable at all, its an extremely more complex game. There are a tremendous amount of more styles of play on both offense and defense.

Re: Basketball perceptions
I will give you an example for basketball then too.. I just figured the Louisville one was better for my cause because that was such a big difference in teams and I couldn't believe what happened to them this year!! What would you say so far about Kentucky's struggles so far in basketball? We all know they have one of the best coaches in the country, and there team is made up of two 5* players and four 4* players... so what would be there problem?

Lack if heart and work ehtic.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Basketball perceptions
Kentucky's players aren't playing as hard as A&M's were for Gillespie. They look pretty disinterested most of the time.
I'd rather have "talent" over "experience" any day. Experience will certainly help but if you don't have players leaving early for the NBA you're probably not winning many championships.

Back to the 99-00 seson, I believe Fizer was in his third year, Johnson was in his fourth year and Horton was good because he was 6'1'' 225 and he could nail 3s from deep.

I'll take experience over talent, because 8 times out of 10 talent turns into attitude problems and the feeling that they are entitled to more and don't have to work so hard. I'll take work ethic over star rating any day of the year.

Re: Basketball perceptions
I sometimes wonder if fans of other schools rail so hard against talented players.
"Who needs some 4-star prospect from NYC? We've got a grinder from Avoca! (random Iowa town) That Iowa work ethic will surely lead us back to the top of the Big 12!"

And though some top recruits have attitude problems, the vast majority don't.

But for some strange reason the players who weren't recruited for this system learned it and somehow were successful at such a huge change. They even went on to have a remarkedly better season than the year before in the old system! The only player left over from Wayne that was recruited for the run & gun style was Rashon. Considering he is our best defender for what you describe as a defensive system, he is hardly the problem, and is someone we will miss next year.
The reason that is blatantly obvious is of course talent. We WILL get a LOT better in the coming years. It will be because we will get rid of the non big 12 calibre players and bring in better ones, and our current players will get bigger and stronger and become better BASKETBALL PLAYERS against big 12 quality competition. It will have little to nothing to do with "learning a system" or being "a better fit for the system." They will be better fits because they will have the talent to play in the BIG 12!
Are you honestly going to say that it doesn't help when you have players that know what the hell they are doing? Any team that has two runner-up NPOY's on it is going to be successful, but sadly we don't have that luxury this year.
