    Barry Stevens jersey to be retired

    At the Story County cyclone luncheon, Mr. Pollard
    announced that ISU will retire Barry's jersey during
    the game that celebrates 100 years of Men's Basketball.
    It a long time coming. It should be a great celebration with
    ISU's greats all coming back for the game.

    Uhhh... I don't really know how to say this, but if Barry is going to be there he is going to be there in spirit. I think it's a great gesture for what was a great player in the revival of Cyclone Basketball and he was just such a good man you hope those guys get recognized. Very happy they are doing this.

    that's great they are finally doing this, but do you think we would un-retire it if say his son commits to Iowa State and wants to wear his father's number?

    The NUMBER isn't officially being retired, the JERSEY is. Semantics.

    However, you'll notice that no one has worn the numbers of the already-retired jerseys (14, 20, 32, 35 or 44) for quite some time.

    Last #14 - Hornacek
    Last #20 - Thompson
    Last #32 - Ha-Keem Abdel-Khaliq (played with/after Fred)
    Last #35 - Sol Harris (1992-95), Mike Bergman (1990-93)

    So what game is it? I was just thinking about this yesterday while I was bored at work. But I was thinking next year during the Kansas game. Kansas will probably lose quite a bit of talent from this year and we should be better, a good chance for a win.

    Plus next year Darius will be a junior, a much more realistic chance at getting him to commit to us. Commiting as a soph is a lil early for some players, they might want to see whats out there.

    Fantastic...about time. Will a banner be hanging in the rafters? Orr should have a banner hanging in the rafters as well!
