Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
I think people arguing that Hilton does not need to be profane to have a home court advantage have a good point, but you need to consider the changing culture these days. Today's youth are a lot more profane than they were 20 years ago, and sometimes they need to yell a little bit of naughty words to get themselves fired up.

No, apparently before 1995, Hilton crowds never uttered a profanity.

Correction,
The Department is trying a respectful, gently stated way to influence change.
I woudl be willing to bet, if there is not improvement, or if it gets worse, they will ratchet up how the request is presented.

Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
We didn't utter profanity in a unified way. We cursed individually (if the game action called for it), but not as a group.

Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
Spontaneous chants (like bs for the ref calls) and hollering out are seen as individuals expressing themselves.
Organized chants, comments after clapping, coming from a university sanctioned group are seen very differently by many.
Not arguing right or wrong, it just is.

Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
There is a difference between cursing as a section and getting irritated and cursing individually. When you curse as a section it has a negative connotation. Everyone in the Hilton can hear it and opposing fans tend to walk away with the opinion that all of our fans are "unclassy". If you curse as an individual because of something in the game action and it is a reaction to bad call or something, then no one hears it except the few around you and if someone is offended by it....it is only that one guy who is cursing and not an entire section.
There is a difference. I hope that makes sense.

The same point I was just trying to make in my post above. Two different things.

There was a student section 20-30 years ago? Even 15?. Huh!
Missed that memo. I went to ISU for 5 years from 89-94. My tickets were all about the colliseum.
BTW - the section is the smallest it's ever been because they don't use them. I'd guess that it was smaller when Gene Smith moved the students out of the parquet seats for more donors.

BTW - the section is the smallest it's ever been (lie) because they don't use them. I went to school the same time as you (89-93). We had 4 different seats. 2 down low and 2 up high during the course of the season. You alternated from game to game. It could be argued there were 4 student sections as I sat with other students in each location, they just moved us around.

Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
Good points and I agree, I'm not for "mass profanity", but individual spurts here and there should not be taken as a "ticket to get tossed out".
As for the student section comments, I wasn't refering to an organized "Cyclone Alley" but yes, there was a student section (or more accurately, groups of students) back in the "glory days". And yes, the students don't use the tickets, that's obviously why it's smaller these days than in years past.

Small pockets of students, but nothing resembling a "section". KU tix we got one year were absolute killer.
Same went for fb - not that we moved. But there wasn't much of a section.
Wasn't much of an attendance either.
Or football for that matter.... -

Re: Pollard's and Jeff Johnson's email to Cyclone alley
It seems there are a few in Cyclone Alley that think screw you JP or Jeff Johnston for suggesting we cut out the profanity and clean up the act. That's unfortunate because we all want the same thing, a Cyclone victory. Cycone Alley is a beautiful thing and I'll bet amongst themselves the great majority would rather it be clean wholesome fun but as usual few knotheads create the kaos.

It's always that way and in any kind of group. A few ruin it for all.

How about a poll, to see if CF feels this is a reasonable request
