I will always say "You Suck" during intros...
I think the "F" word is a little over the top though.
It's funny, I thought that an issue was that we aren't vocal enough as an entire crowd. Hopefully that changes.
Oh, that's easy. We, as a collective fanbase whole, don't do anything right. The students are too lazy to go, people have jobs, people leave early, we're not loud enough, we swear too much, the students do/don't do X, the alumns/non-student's do/don't do Y. It's all the same regurgitated crap every other month.
I'm not a fan of yelling anything after the 5 claps but probably just because we never did that when I was in school a few years ago. I don't remember "Don't know the words" being as prevalent at basketball games as it was at football games but maybe it was.
Either way I don't think emails are going to stop anything. If they're really committed they're going to have to stop playing the song altogether which would be too bad. As long as there have been student sections they have been profane.
I really don't think "you suck" after the claps is that profane. Kids are going to hear much worse things from television and classmates at school anyway.
I do agree though that "don't know the words" chant and the "beat the **** outta you" chant are definitely unnecessary and not classy at all. I don't participate in those.
I have a hard time respecting a critique of what our fans do after I went and watched a bunch of KU fans "Wave the Wheat" all night while their undefeated team stomped all over us...
Seriously, how are they supposed to be taken seriously on the national level like that?
So I just slipped on some ice and wanged my head, and I had a vision of the future (note - not really. If you lack a sense of humor may I suggest skipping this post)

Dear Cyclone Alley members,
Welcome back to another exciting new year of Iowa State basketball. As we get ready for another year, we have three exciting announcements for the upcoming season!
First, the most obvious change is that we've raised membership costs and decided to implement a step system for Cyclone Alley. Beginning this season, members paying over $100 in dues will be allowed to sit in arena circle. Cyclone Alley members paying $50 or more in dues will be permitted to sit in the parquet. However, upper deck seating is still available for the low, low membership price of $25. Students not in Cyclone Alley will no longer be allowed to attend games.
Second, we've used the increased member dues to pay for official Cyclone Alley shepherds! These ten employees will be wandering the student section ensuring you mindless sheep cheer the way we want, dress and express yourself according to Cyclone Alley specifications, and don't use any profanity. Failure to abide by these rules will result in ejection and corporal punishment. Remember, they WILL taze you, bro!
Third, we're excited to announce that for the first time ever, the official Cyclone Alley T-shirt will be a brilliant shade of white. After thorough review of last year's performance, the powers that be have officially decreed that Cyclone Alley has become as vanilla as they desired, and are donating new shirts to reflect this fact. Finally, remember the new official Cyclone Alley cheer for opponents, *clap-clap-clap-clap-clap* WOULD YOU LIKE A HUG?
Looking forward to another year in Hilton, and GO STATE!
-The "powers that be"
*Note - I realize that that which is said in Hilton reverberates around the building and is easily heard by all. I also am sensitive to the parental concern of hearing us (the students) swearing. Since I'm pretty easy for people (kids in particular) to pick out of the crowd, I make every effort to censor myself in Hilton - Actually singing "Go Cyclones, GO!" or using "...this stupid (shhhhhh) SONG!"
Hope someone om jthe student section hcan come up with some original material like Jay Leni has.
No swagger words, no namby pamby words. Just right smooth words.
Instead of You Suck use You Stink.
I think Mrs. Geoffrey should bake the other team cookies before the game. That would be classy.
Once again, a plea from the AD's office to avoid using vulgar language at an athletic event has spiraled into the extreme by a few that feel they should be able to say whatever they want, when they want - no matter who is listening. And then claim that the parents of these kids should just do a better job of parenting.
I really like the 5 clap silence method. I don't think there's anything wrong with you suck, though.
Go Cyclones, Go.... don't really know what to think. I've participated in the "new" version of the song since I was a freshman. I do agree that it should probably be changed.
Hey, Go State... we're gonna beat the **** out of you! I love that chant. As long as I'm in the student section I'll always do that chant.
I agree with the sentiments of others when saying you are NOT going to get rid of all profanity from a student section. Parents need to explain to their child that the student section is for young adults and they say inappropriate things that you shouldn't say, and that should be that.
