I've only met Pres. Geoffrey once and the 1 time I did I was very impressed. I've been happy with him since then as well but considering the circumstance that we met at the time I had no idea what was to come.
His very first semester at ISU he and his wife made it a point to walk through the residence halls and greet students as they moved in before classes started. I was a RA at the time and was just hanging out in my room with the door open when he and the Mrs. knocked on the door and came in with a bucket of candy. They greeted me and sat down on the couch and talked with me for a few minutes then before they left the room thanked me for my involvement with the residence halls in a student staff position and continued on their way down the hall to the next room. Was very impressed that they were making an effort to mingle with the students as after enduring a couple years of Martin Jischke who was the exact oposite and tended to abandon both faculty and students all for the sake of fund raising it was a nice gesture to have a President that cared about more than that. He's definately shown a commitment to athletics which I believe if you have good athletics it not only brings in money for the university but national recognition as well which has a trickle down effect on every department in some sense.
I was at the CO game last year and Geoffrey was coming up the stairs and stood next to me on the bench I was standing on in the student section and watched ISU score a touchdown. After the TD he gave me a high five and a pat on the back before heading up the stairs. He's a good guy. I like him a lot

Colorado coach Gary Barnett "I thought we had a pretty good mascot. But when we showed up at Iowa State and they had a real tornado, that's the real deal." November 12, 2005
During the ISU-KSU football game this year he was walking through the student section high fiveing people left and right. It was great to see him joking around with all of us, even those who happened to be out tailgating all morning
At the KU game in 2005, he was walking around talking to Cyclone fans tailgating on campus. He stopped by and said hi while a bunch of us were getting ourselves painted up. He seems like someone who's really down to earth. I also heard that he and his wife will sometimes come into the UDCC and strike up conversations with students.
