I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself but he is on KC sports radio and was asked who had the best fans in the country. He thought for a long time and finally said it was Iowa State. Said he went there his first year at OSU when ISU wasn't very good but the place was full. Then gave a few backhanded compliments about how there's nothing else to do in Ames and Hilton isn't that nice but coming from Doug that's about as nice as anything he's ever said about ISU.
He also talked up Creighton fans after that. Earlier in the interview he was ripping on OSU fans for not showing up last night and saying they used to consider themselves special but aren't proving it this year.

I really noticed that last night. It looked terrible. Everytime they went to a wide shot there were empy seats. Good seats. Not upper deck crap seats.

I wonder if Gottlieb still has a man crush on Steve Alford?

He's a tool and still bitter about getting punked in the Big XII's his senior year by Fizer & Co.
Didn't like him as a player. Still don't care for him on the tele.

I also heard the interview. I knew Petro (810 radio guy) was pushing for gottieb to say ISU Petro always says how ISU has the best fans in the Big 12. Petro had a great interview with Pollard last week before the Missouri game.

Yes, because we all know what a bastion of culture and enlightenment Stillwater is. Pot, meet kettle.

Did he mention their Johnny Orr Day performance where we could have named the final score? That's the loudest I've ever heard Hilton when it wasn't a close game. It was Fizer's junior year. We beat them again in the Big 12 tourney in a much better game where they ran out of tinmeouts.

They did some work to the arena, but mostly just a facelift like Hilton got. It mostly went to practice facilities, the new fb stadium, etc.

I don't have any grudge against OSU, always thought their BB fans/arena was right up there with us and KU (ok, for KU it is just the arena atmosphere, not the fans).

They about doubled the seating capacity and expanded the entire building all while keeping the original floor. They basically built around and over the existing structure. It is a really cool design. And the price tag was about $55 million and was first ready to use during the 2000 season.

I think someone there saud they were increasing capacity by a few thousand... It's hard to tell though since the football stadium, arena, and practice facilites are all connected...
