How big is the game tonight?

Could help us land or lose Appleton IMO. We desperately need a signature win this year. Never really got one last year. You have to show recruits that you're making progress and can play with the best in the conference.

Anyone else think a 30 point loss would take ISU out of the running for Appleton?

No, no one expects us to win this game let alone make it a close game.

Re: How big is the game tonight?

I think that Appleton will pay really close attention to this game, since ISU and KU are two of his three remaining teams. IMO a 30 point loss will not scare him off because that would just show he could have lot's of playing time at ISU. At Kansas, he would be a role player. At ISU, he could be a starting point guard, and he would play a lot more.

Re: How big is the game tonight?

I don't think you really need a signature win like an upset over Kansas to show you are making progress. And with a team like Kansas that is so well rounded, just showing you can compete with them makes a big impact on recruits. I don't think the outcome of this game should affect any recruits standing with us.

However, in the scheme of the season, if we can steal one from Kansas either there or at home, I think that is a big advantage in positioning for the Big 12 tournament and helps you chances of getting into the tournament if you have a border line record with a win over Kansas.

I expect we can make this a close game, they didn't actually destroy Mizzou, even though that game was a rivalry game and nothing can really ever be taken into account, I still think we make this closer than 10 points.

Re: How big is the game tonight?

I think most people assume Appleton wants to find a place with the most playing time. But maybe he would give up some PT for a conference championship and a run at a National Title.

That being said. I think if Appleton were to commit to ISU, we would have as good a chance at winning a Big XII Title as anybody. Assuming Wesley stays for 4 years. And I think he will.

I think that every game from here on out is a big game. We need to steal a few wins somewhere to make up for the UNI, Bradley, and Minnesota losses. Even if we do lose, I think it's important to play hard and execute the whole game. We've been playing with a lot of confidence lately and think that a blow out might hurt that.

1) Iowa actually plays very good defense.

2) I think it's important, from a National perspective of ISU, that we keep this game competitive. Just don't let it get away from us so somebody wathing will continue to watch. Sorry, if I'm not a fan of the schools involved, I won't watch a blowout. I want people to watch us.

I dunno I think I would be a ok with us trouncing Kansas, I'd take the big victory at the expense of people not watching us. Now just let me continue to have wild dreams like that

Even though it is at the Phog, ISU generally plays KU as well or better there than in Hilton for some reason. At least from my memory.

I totally agree with you Cydkar - We get so few games on ESPN already, I'd hate the ones we do get on there to be awful.

As for Appleton, I thought I heard he is going to be in attendance tonight. Honestly if we don't play well tonight we could be watching him become a Jayhawk.
