First off, his soph year we didn't have anyone posting up, much less Rashon. And they ran several set plays for him against lesser teams this year, and he struggled with it, basically going to the fade each time.
As I do often, I'll go to the Burce Bowen comparison. Bowen often has the other teams smallest guy guarding him, but rarely do they post him up, because it is simply not his game. Rashon's game is to get put backs, hit 3's and play great D all of which he does well.

The point of running set plays (which is what our coach wants to do) is to get players in optimal position to take advantage of their personal skill set. Again, I have got to believe that we should be able to get some great looks for Rahshon moving towards the basket. Certainly, not all of our set plays are designed for Brackins, Johnson, and Hubalek to end up with a three pointer as it appeared at times last night. You guys are both saying the same thing, just wording it differently.
I think part of the problem last night was our bigs were not keeping their guys off the glass, which limited some of Clark's bread and butter put back dunks.
By the way, Clark dunking on that freshman big was awesome.

I've done nothing but watch Rahshon for four years, and I can tell you that he did post up his soph and even some of his fresh year when he played the 4. I have film on it if you'd like to see it.

Re: My only complaint
I agree that he does need a FEW more looks per game only because some of the threes he takes seem rushed. Maybe he takes those because he isnt getting the ball enough. I think the reason for that though is that for the first time in a while we actually have a variety of scorers.

And Stinson used to post up ALL the time too...He was always stronger than the person guarding him and would post up and back his man down.

I don't get to see ISU play a whole lot but Rahshon did not take any 3s last night. I looked at the stats and he only takes about 2 per game and they account for about 34% of his field goal attempts). Just for comparison, Wesley takes over 5 per game (47% of his field goals attempted are 3s).

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: My only complaint
Did anyone else notice how far away from the basket we were setting screens to start our O last night? This ball screen seems to usually be set from the free throw line to the top of the key. Last night it seemed like it was near half court...KU just forced us out there..and it totally screwed up our offense.
Bottom line is this is the best KU team I've seen in many years...and they play as a team. No shame in losing the way we lost.

If one is inside posting up, they can draw defenders in and then kick it out for the other one to shoot the 3 or drive to the hole. They are both usually bigger than the person guarding them, and I think this could be one thing we could do to open up our offense more.

The biggest reason for that is that KU knew that Peterson could not get past any of their guards 1-on-1. Against good defenders, he has to work his tail off just to keep possession of the ball, which he usually does pretty well. Unfortunately, for him to take anyone off the dribble, he needs on the ball screens, and when the defender is in your shorts at half-court, that's where you are forced to set them.
IMO, Garrett is light-years ahead of Peterson in that regard. However, once he is past his man, he doesn't always make the best decisions or finish strong at the rim. Once he figures out how to consistently make plays after beating his man, he will be a good one.

The best part of his game is from about 15ft and in. He had a sweet take to the rack with the left hand in the second half and a fade-away bank from the right side (about 12ft) that just screamed NBA. I don't get the same feeling about him when he's settling for unnecessary 3's.

He has a very nice mid-range and inside game but he is taking nearly 50% of his field goals from beyond the 3 point arc...too many for him and the kind of game he possesses.

Re: My only complaint
Rashon would of probably got more chances last night if we calmed down to run an offense it seemed to be a lot of find an open 3 and pop i know thats the idea of motion offense but GMACs offense does include more passing and more rotation down low we couldn't get the ball downlow for nothing. You can tell GMAC was pretty preturbed on the sideline I think he wanted in in the 5 spot

Re: My only complaint
I think we'd do well having Jiri and/or Brackins bring their bigs out and then have them feed Rashon or Wes in the paint since they almost always have an advantage on the man that is covering them. Unless of course the other team is zoning, like when Kansas was doing a variation of the a box-and-1 which was killing us.
