For the year we have shot 337 3's, opponents have shot 347. If we were a team that relied on the 3 we would have shot way more than our opponents.
What you fail to state is that 33% of our overall field goal attempts are coming from 3 point land while only 31% of our opponent's attempts come from behind the arc.
I decided to compare ISU, ISU's opponents composite and the top 10 teams in the country relative to 3 pointers and scoring:
Team/%FG att frm 3/overall shoot %/3 point shoot %/Scoring avg
A couple of things really popped out to me...UNC is the top scoring team in these stats and they have the smallest percentage of their total shots coming from the three of any of these teams...it appears that the majority of teams in the top 10 prefer to play more up-tempo basketball with Washington St and Georgetown being notable exceptions.
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
One of my pet peeves is ISU has NEVER been able to throw an accurate ally-oop dunk pass. It seems as thought EVERY time we try this for anyone it turns into a missed opportunity for points.
Somehow we are just AWFUL at ally-oop finishing while other team generally have no problem.
I guess you never saw the Halloway/ Willoughby to Cato team play.

So since our opponents have more attempts from behind the arc than us, but take more of their shots from inside the arc, that must mean we're missing out on some defensive rebounds. Whatever the case, shooting 2 more % from behind the arc than our opponents still doesn't make us reliant on the 3 pointer. A good example of a team relying on the 3 would be Iowa.
I think the top ten teams are in there position because they are executing on the offensive and defensive ends. It has nothing to do with how many 3's they take.
I can assure you that coaches like Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, Coach K, Bill Self, etc. would be trying to find a way to get the ball in Rahshon's hands going towards the basket.
Wow. Just, wow.
