Who recruited Eik--

he has been committed to us for ever. Anyone know who recruited him, or does he have some connection to ISU?

I think he just wanted to end the process early, so he didn't have to worry about the recruiting and could just play basketball.

Ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty
Dear Alma Mater, make our spirits great
True and valiant like the bells of I-O-WA STATE!

Re: Who recruited Eik--

I guess my real question is did he come with McD, or did he want to attend ISU from the beginning? Someone had to be pretty sharp to spot this kid as a sophmore playing in a small Neb. town. How did we keep him from Kansas? etc.

Re: Who recruited Eik--

If I remember, he went to Gmac's 1st summer camp and liked the situation. At the time he committed, the back court playing time for 08 was wide open. He made an outstanding impression, got an early offer, committed shortly afterwards. I'm not sure if Gmac or anyone on his staff knew about him before they arrived at ISU.

Creighton doesn't have that much of a following in NE outside of Omaha. Altman was also focused on a couple of 08 guard recruits from the metro area. Nebraska was going nowhere under Collier and Sadler barely knew his way around campus before Wes committed to ISU. Six months later, there likely would have been a great deal more competition for Wes's services.

Looks like a little bit outstanding foresight and a little bit good luck. Hope he contributes as much as it appears he could. Can't help thinking back to some of the predictions about Cory J. I tend to be a bit of a pessimist. Been a clone fan since the 50s.

I remember when he signed there were many of us who really questioned signing him. How things have changed. I hope he does turn out to be a great find if he can do it on the court when he gets to Ames.

Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE.

He signed pretty early. Doesnt seem like many others had much of a chance.

OWH was reporting last year when they took Stinnett and Walker that Dana Altman was very interested in him but he was tied up to ISU.

Why are basketball player more real when they commit than football players. Do fb players get more recruiting pessure?

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Re: Who recruited Eik--

it is probably alot easier for a basketball staff to keep the 5 or so recruits per year tied up and happy compared to the 25+ recruits that football coaches have to deal with..just a thought

Mike Anderson of Missouri also was quoted as saying that if Wes ever decided to not go to ISU, there would be a scholarship waiting for him at Mizzou (paraphrase).

All of our MBB recruits for 2008 have signed a letter of intent so they aren't going anywhere else. I wish we could say the same thing about our FB recruits... at least signing day is just around the corner.

Wes tried out for Gmac at the YMCA in Fremont right after he was names our coach. He made close to 50 straight 3's, in an hr long meeting. Gmac offered the scholarship on the spot. This is info I got from the director of the Y, who witness this meeting.

Re: Who recruited Eik--

Big game for Wes tonight.

Bergan play against Boys Town in their conference tournament finals. BT will be by far the most athletic team they will play this year, and is 2 classes bigger. BT generally has excellent athletes, but struggle to gel as a team, due to the transient nature of their students. Should be interesting to see what kind of numbers Wes puts up tonight.

I'm guessing he was never 'quoted' as saying that since it would be an NCAA violation.
