Fremont Bergan goes to 16-0 and wins there confernece championship. They won 79-71 with Wes scoring 37 points. Wes sealed the victory with 6 free throws and a blocked 3 point attempt for a steal and out ran 2 Boys Town players down the court for a two handed stuff that brought the crowd to its feet in the last minute. Boys Town was the #2 team 2 classes above Bergan.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
Best news we have had all day.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
Wow. I guess that shows they can compete with the "bigger boys." Boys town has a slightly different meaning here in Chicago...but anyway...
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
Boys Town used to be Girls and Boys Town, but now they changed the name back to just Boystown for better recognition.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
It sounds familiar, it is just around here it has such a different meaning it is hard to separate it.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
I worked at BoysTown a couple of summers ago. They were poised to have some pretty athletic and talanted teams in all sports, good work by Wes.
The other day I was back home and KETV (I think) did a story on Wes and showed some highlights. He really isnt that athletic or as quick as the majority of recruits you might see in the big12... thats not to say he was slow or anything.. That said, he could manuever as good as any, and his ballhandling and control seemed to make up for any physical deficiency he might have at this level. In my opinion this kid has a huge upside, he is 170 lbs and said he wants to be around 190 when he steps on campus at ISU.
It was funny at the end they asked his young coach when he expects to field his next big12 caliber athlete and he said maybe there is a couple of 3rd or 4th graders he doesn't know about.
He is going to do good things for this program.

Is that the name of a HS?

It's a school for troubled boys from around the country. Used to be run by the Catholic Church. Check out the old movie.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
It is still run by the church. It has boys and girls. One of the players looked like he was 25.

I like it...it gives Wes some experience in playing against college players.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
For us to compete we have to identify talent that flies under the radar. Last year it was obviously Wesley, this year I think Lucca would have qulified, and next year I think it's going to be Eik. If we can find one every year and mix in a Brackins/Garrett/Buckley type with them, we can consistently compete.
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
No offense, 83Clone or anyone else, but what makes you think that Lucca is the real deal?

I will play the role of anyone else. After watching him during practice, he is a special player. (Offense, no scouting on Defense)
Re: Eikmeier's team beats Boys Town
That is great to hear. I hope his great play in practice will carry onto the court next year. Many years of being a cyclone fan have taught me not to count my chickens before they've hatched though, so I'm always skeptical until I see the proof.
