Floyd and LE guard play

Remember those 2-3 years with TF and LE where our gaurds were just aweful? Lee Love, Paris Corner...those names come to mind. God that was hard to watch.

This team isn't that bad...more inexperienced than bad. Those dudes were bad and inexperienced.

2-3 years? I just remember the one year that was Larry's first and featured a weak backcourt since TF didn't leave much talent behind in that position (Nurse was the only decent guard). Larry fixed the problem immediately with two jucos that were our best backcourt of all time. Other than that one year I don't think we ever had a backcourt this bad in the Floyd-Eustachy-Morgan years (counting Wesley as a small forward.) We always had a combination of least Sullivan, Barnes, Power, Haluska, Stinson, Blalock. I wouldn't say our backcourt was ever quite as bad as the last 2 years though. We did have a few terrible frontcourts. Lets hope our guard talent changes in a big way next year with the additions and more experience.

Tinsley was great, but Kantrail Horton wasnt anything special. Tinsley made him look decent. The supposed best back court ever was 90% Tinsley.

I think you're underestimating Kantrail a little bit.

Supposed best back court? Of course Tinsley was better than Horton. It was still probably the best defensive back court in the country, and one of the best in the country overall. Since you are so quick to put down Horton I am guessing you don't understand or watch much defensive basketball. Lets hear a better ISU backcourt then since you are so quick to disagree?

First, you said nothing about defense, just that they were the best.
But i MIGHT take Jacy and Dedric or Stinson and Blalock over Tinsley and Horton. Im not saying anyone is better than the rest, but there is no clear cut favorite. Mel and Trail had some great teammates to help them out, but so did the others.

Kantrail Horton wasn't anything special??? He was a rock. Handled the ball, shot threes, made great decisions, great FT shooter.

He was special, and overlooked because of Tinsley, but special nonetheless.

The thing I liked about Mel and Trail was that both of them could get into the lane on a consistent basis, and were generally smart with the ball. Mel seemed to take more risks, but he'd get more rewards too. This almost makes me want to break out the ISU/UCLA tape again. I really miss watching those guys play, and being on campus with the excitement of our team headed to the tournament.

Why would you think best would not encompass all aspects of the game? I did say best overall and I meant it. The fact you would even consider either of the others pretty much says it all.

In my mind, the thing that separates Mel and Trail, is not really the statistics, there points, assists, etc., but just knowing that they really controlled the game....both from an offensive and defensive standpoint.

If Horton was the point gaurd instead of Holloway, that team makes the final four.

Both coaches also had Jr and Sr guards most of the time and that helps big time. It also helps when your PG is big, quick, physical, and an upper classman.

Kantrail was a great player. Maybe not NBA caliber, but he still was a very important part of that team. I would take Horton/ Tinsley as my guard court any day.
