My distaste for Colorado stems from 2 individuals in recent memory: Gary Barnett and Osborn -- can't remember his first name, but he a fro and wore black socks up to his knees, and he came off the bench to hit the 3-pointer that pushed us to OT with them in Hilton (I think it was in 2005). I hated that guy. F'in knee socks.
    Andy was his 1st name.

When Homan was a junior, CU @ ISU. The Alley was yelling "Homan you suck". The good guys won, we need more players that "suck". The center for Colorado complained after words about the band and the taunts from the crowd. Pretty much a non issue IMHO

I was at that game, too. Worst display of sportsmanship by a group of fans that I have ever seen. I used to kind of like CU because I have so many family connections to Colorado. Then I moved here and got a first-hand taste of what the CU fans (namely, the students) are really like. It completely changed by perspective on the program. Amazing how living closer actually turned me against the program.

Re: when did the Colo games get so nasty with ISU?

Colorado is known for being like that. When we went to Boulder for the K-State/Colorado football game, their fans were yelling derogatory stuff at us the entire time. And they were spitting on the K-State players. I think that is the worst sportsmanship I've ever seen from any school.

Also, one of the CU basketball players (goofy kid who wore high socks and a headband) clothes-lined Rahshon when they played at Hilton his freshmen year, and the whole team almost got in a fight for that.

That reminded me, did anyone see the OU vs. OSU game last night? The same kid that Rahshon got into it with tackled the older Harris kid and got a tech. The refs even looked at it for awhile to determine if he should get ejected. He should have, because it was obviously intentional! That just shows how dirty that kid plays!

That was amazing. I couldn't believe that it wasn't called right away. They were pretty quick to jump in and break it up. Still, he pulled the guy down after hooking his arm around his neck.

I couldn't either! He wrapped his whole arm around his neck and threw him down! I can't believe the refs didn't eject him, because they have to protect the players. You can't let them do stuff like that and get away with it.

I was surprised that he didn't get the boot. Secondly, I didn't know that they were able to go back an review things like that. It's good that they did or he would've gotten by with just a foul.

    Ah yes, the CU "hospitality".

A CU fan got kicked out of the stadium (FB game in '06) for walking all the way from his seat (from what I understand, it was on the complete opposite side of the stadium) to come over in front of the visiting ISU section and give us all the bird.

Man, he was tough - I was so in awe of him and his awesomeness.

Re: when did the Colorado games get so nasty with ISU?

Speaking of that 2005 b-ball game in Ames... I was almost going to start a new thread on it but it fits perfectly here....

I was listening to that game on the CU network (I was living in Ft Collins and didn't bother streaming in the ISU broadcast, sometimes it's fun the listen to the other teams broadcast).... Anyway, prior to the game, Charles Johnson, the color guy for the CU broadcast (and former QB who led the buffs to the "national title" vs. Notre Dame in 1990), was ripping on ISU and Ames. I'm paraphrasing here, but basically he stated "as we drove into Ames here today, I looked down the roster of Iowa State, and I can't believe where they get players from in here to Ames, I mean you got guys from the Bronx, Boston, Brooklyn etc...referring to Stinson, Blalock, Clark)... " he was befuddled how and why anyone would come to Ames to play basketball, esp. kids from the east coast. To me, it was bigtime disrespect. It was typical Boulder attitude looking down on all other Big12 towns. Hmm, Charles, why WOULD a player come to ISU over, say, CU? Let's see, 1) ISU's average attendance is typically larger than what CU's arena can even hold. 2) Iowa and Ames embrace their athletes and teams, not look down upon them like in Boulder 3) Do kids from the inner city go to a school for the program or because there are mountains nearby? (the typical selling point for CU)... I'm guessing a kid who lives, eats, breathes basketball and wants to go D-I would choose a place where the fans are passionate for the program instead of a place where the arena is 1/3rd full but has mountains nearby 4) Charles, look at the men's b-ball banners in Hilton.. you see NCAA tourney appearances, sweet 16's, elite 8, conference titles... how many of those do you see in the Coors gym?

anyway, that was my rant on some serious disrespect from CUs announcers... funny, I never hear Eric Heft or Walters making negative remarks about other programs like that...
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

The big socks guy also flipped off the crowd on his way out. I was sitting a few rows up from where the visiting team walked out and saw it.

Re: when did the Colorado games get so nasty with ISU?

Having season tickets for 2-3 years in the upper level at JT and sitting near the visitors section (ISU side of the steps, front row) , by far the worst FB fans were Knebraska hands down, no comparison, nothing close, A number 1. Some years Iowa fans would be in second place or in 3rd, however, Kneb was always first when the visited.

I guess we all have certian fans that are smucks at times, my bad experiences have been with Kneb.

P.s. The Football game with UNLV was unique with the steriod bound dude, on the west side LL, in his tank top trying to start fights and intimidate fans was interesting.....I think every Iowa State Patrol in the stadium was up by the concessions watching him waiting for him to do something foolish.
