I acutally drove to the games just to help keep warm when I was a student. But most of the time I lived well off of campus.

Actually it was for Heath Ledger - my insperation for my outfit tonight came from Cesar Romero (the 1960's Batman TV series Joker), however since everyone was going to assume it was Heath Ledger I put the tear for him
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

Did you go to the game tonight? I did

Re: No students... no balcony.
Exactly.. not everyone needs to come... just a few hundred out of the 20,000+ students at ISU.
I guess I find it more troubling not that the students dont show up, but that nothing has been done about it over the past few years. I had no problem with people not showing up tonite... it was nasty... but our Saturday big 12 games and the Iowa game lacked the big student showing.

Re: No students... no balcony.
I don't think the lack of winning excuse works right now. We're 13-8 and 3-3 in conference. That's not bad at all, all things considered. Had you told me after the UNI game that this is where our team would be right now I might have wet myself. I'm assuming the weather played a factor tonight and maybe the opponent. CU isn't exactly a team that gets the heart pumping with excitement for the average fan. I give credit for those who made it to the arena tonight, it got loud at times.

Well maybe this would be a good time to discuss how you can get more students to go to the games. It's not like they haven't done anything in response to our low attendance...according to the Daily article 1,300 student seats were cut from last year to this year, and another 700 will be cut if attendance doesn't increase for our last few games. I for one, would like to see students in those seats if possible, but if it truly isn't going to happen then by all means take them away from us; maybe we'll learn down the road. For now, though, does anyone on here have any marketing ideas that will help us increase student attendance this season?

Re: No students... no balcony.
Personally I think....
Bye Bye CA..
overall student section hasnt been the same since it started. Should have never made it an 'exclusive group'.
Just call all students 'cyclone alley', forget having to wear matching Tshirts, and just let whoever sit down low. That was students can come to the game with hopes of sitting down in the parquet. When they cant, they will most likely sit up top.

Re: No students... no balcony.
i guess if you want to compare our student section to drake...
I guess I was always taught that Hilton Magic was because people would show up no matter what and cheer to help the team to win.....
rather than the type of crowd that cheered WHEN the team was winning.
I guess people anymore rather would be the effect of winning rather than the cause....

Re: No students... no balcony.
What's a student season ticket cost? What's a general season ticket cost? What's the donation to get those parquet seats?
If anyone doesn't think Pollard is factoring this in, you're kidding yourself.
"hmmm, I can sell this seat for around $100? Or I can sell it for over $400 and slap a $2500 donation on every couple of them as well"
I'm not saying that he wants to, or that I want him to. But if there are going to be empty seats - might as well get paid for them.
Kinda negates the whole "there were other empty seats" arguement - doesn't it?

Re: No students... no balcony.
and to any of you who might be taking offense...
nobody is knocking the students who do show up.. they are great. just concerned about the lack of interest among the ISU community.

Re: No students... no balcony.
I think Jamie hit the nail on the head though. Alot of kids have these tickets written in with the cost of school and they never even think about it. Make it a big deal, wait untill the season is about to start, drum up interest with a 'Midnight Madness' and let all students in free then sell the tickets after that... It couldn't hurt...

Kinda negates the whole "there were other empty seats" arguement - doesn't it? I honestly don't think this is a monetary decision. Pollard has never discussed taking away student parquet seats, and I don't see that happening as we almost always fill the parquet close to full (conference games at least). Student season tickets are $95, so the athletic department would only be making $4 extra per seat as I'm assuming they'd sell the extra seats at the $99 rate that similar seats go for. I believe him when he says this is solely about getting people in the seats.
