Thats a great idea but the student government would never approve it. When you have about 26,000 students and maybe 25% of them at most attend athletic events, the other 75% is going to have a problem paying for something they will never use.

Whatever, when I was a student last year I was paying for all kinds of crap that I never used. Just call it something fancy like Iowa State University general student fees or something like that. AND it would raise revenue for the athletic department, something that Mr. Pollard would be happy about I am sure.

Maybe a sign of the times. With ISU and large student body, 12,000 people go to Big 12 games. With Creighton and a dinky student body, they do 16,000. Maybe the full time working people can go to the games easier than the student body.

Pretty much the CU game was the only one on just CTN in Big 12 conference play - all others are carried by ABC, ESPN, ESPN Classic, etc. Even ABC stayed away last night. they must have known how cold it would be - a winter Cyclone.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

That would never fly. Too many people would be ticked about it.

There is a lack of interest from students in basketball. I think that CA plays a large part in that. For lots of people, going to a basketball game just isn't as exciting as going to a football game. Through in the cold, games during the week and students are just not that into it right now.

I'm not a student anymore - but at least those seats are paid for. If they take them away from the students, who are they going to give them to. THERE ARE UNSOLD SEATS ALL OVER HILTON FOR EVERY FREAKING GAME. Student attendence wasn't a problem in the past and I understand that. Well you know what... "old people" attendance wasn't a problem in the past either.

The fanbase is different now whether we like it or not. It is unfair, "people throwing stones in glass houses" bullcrap that goes on in these threads over and over. I didn't make every game when I was a student. In fact I rarely miss one now that I'm not.

This is just a ridiculous, bullcrap argument that goes on every freaking game and it's old as heck.

You know what would be great? If my wife were able to stay at home while I went to work and I were capable of making enough money to support us, just like the good old 1950s.

THE 1950s ARE NOT COMING BACK. And unfortunately, the 1980s and early 1990s of Cyclone basketball are not coming back until this team becomes a consistent winner like it was back in the day. To constantly rag on the only people who let out a peep in the first half yesterday is so freaking tiresome.

I've been wondering the same thing. How much have things changed over the years for ISU basketball fans?

I attend more games now than I ever used to - while in school in the early 90's or a young alum in the late 90's, early 00's. However I don't seem to watch as much.

When I was younger (and single), ISU bball was an EVENT. I lived for gameday and nothing got in the way. Hung on every play - drank like mad if they lost.

Not the same anymore. For instance, last night I totally spaced the game until I had already made plans with my wife and couldn't watch.

Don't know why or what's changed. Older? Like I said, I make it a point to go more than I ever did. But I don't watch as often.

Is it the same for others? Why is that? Were we spoiled by the success of the Fizer/Tinsley teams? Jaded because we haven't got back.

I do know there's far more interest in ISU football than ever. Does that factor into it? Does interest in FB inherently detract from BBall?

As a student, I DON'T. That is a TERRIBLE idea. Unless they're making it so the fee is only like, 10 dollars a semester, I want NO part of this whatsoever, and I'm sure plenty of other students don't either. ESPECIALLY those of us who are out of state, paying 10 GRAND extra to go here in pure tuition alone than in-staters. I realize that was a choice to go here, and thus I'm paying the money. So it should be a choice to go to the games and pay for that.

I think that's the big thing right now... ISU BBall isn't an event. Football is, basketball isn't. I don't know exactly why that is the case, but it is.

With all of the other students paying as well, it wouldn't be too much. What about like $40. I pay $40 every time I fill up my damn car. It is no different that me paying computer fees and heath center fees that I NEVER used.

Not last night there weren't...I saw two guys wanting tickets and they wanted courtside seats (not my cheapo balcony seats )

It would likely have to be about $20/semester for the 25k students to cover the equivalent FB and BBall student season ticket numbers. I like it because it would definitely create a sense of urgency among the students to get to the game or not have a seat available.

I've thought about this before. When I was in school, ISU was definitely a BBall school and that was the event as you say. FB was not as exciting although I was there every game.

Now there seems to be more interest in FB (even though we still aren't a powerhouse) and much less in BBall.

I really think ISU may be transitioning from a so called BBall school to a FB school.

Over selling would not last long. While I agree with the principle. The first time large group is turned away, or if overcrowding occurs there would be the same complaints on the opposite iend of the spectrum.

Not saying this is good, just a practical look at what woudl happen.

As mentioned by isuno1fan, a sense of urgency wouldn't be such a bad thing around here. Basically, if you are a student and want to go to a game...then get there! It would create a level playing field fro everyone, not just the people who get their tickets bought for them in June!
