I think I know what you mean by the CEO and business aspect, and I won't disagree that Wayne had poor p.r skills. I've talked to him and he's a real nice guy, but my impression is that he is very shy and I'm sure he wasn't a hit with the big donors. But to me, the coaches main job is 1-recruiting good players and good kids, and 2-coaching, and that's what translates into wins and success on the court. I think Wayne did both and he did have some good success in 3 short years.
Nobody disagrees with the fact that Morgan brought in some talented players...it's just so frustrating wondering what we could've achieved we those players, if we would've made them play with ANY DISCIPLINE WHATSOEVER. Stinson, Blalock, Carr, Taggart, Clark, Degand, and Hubalek are all talented players...but no matter how talented you are, you have a 0% chance of overachieving for a season if your team doesn't give a consistant effort. Not one of Morgan's teams gave a consistant effort...plus the guy made 0 in game adjustments, and had the nerve to try to press North Carolina for 40minutes as opposed to trying to slow it down and bother them with our different zone looks...(that's just one in-game example, but it's about as much of a no-brainer as it gets...you don't try to press the #1 team in the country for 40 minutes, when running is what they do best)...sorry for the rant, I have no problems with Morgan as a person, and still believe he would make a great assistant coach and recruiter anywhere-but I get a lot more frustrated watching talented players act like babies and not hustle or play hard, then I do watching not-as-talented players work their butts off and lose. Just my opinion.
We never cut of slash becuase GM wants to run the offense through and through.
We never get the ball to Wesley and Clark is a better offensive player then he gets credit for! I hope to see more athleticism in our players and let or players like Clark Wesley and Brakins do what they do! Wesley is a great athlete and we never let him do his thing! We had the match-up we wanted with a guy who was 4 inches shorter then him and we never got him the ball...
Sorry everyone I'm just mad at how we are playing right now and our team looks bored and slow!
McD wasnt left with much to work with, talent wise. McD is the first new ISU coach since Orr that hasnt had much talent to work with his first 2 years.
Some of you dont like the way he subs players but is there really that much sitting on the bench.
ISU Averages 15 pts off the bench and 5 of those are DGs.
They average 14 FGAs a game and 5 are DGs.
There average 5 TOs a game and 2 are DGs
They agerage 8 RBs a game and 2 are ATs
When Mac looks down his bench what does he see:
1. A Transfer RSJr that basically walked on and is playing a position new to him.
2. A Freshman PG that will be good but turns the ball over and plays out of control a lot
3. A Soph PF that maybe should have RS last year but due to the lack of depth has to play. He is a nice player, hustles, and he will improve but is undersized for his position and rough around the edges.
4. A Juco transfer walk-on G that is a good defender I guess but isnt athletic enough to be a Big 12 player, and strugles to score.
5. A Walk-on RS Fresh G that is a good defender but needs work on his Offense.
6. A Freshman guard that would have been RSed if Lucca was able to play.
Not to mention the Walk-on PG that starts.
There are 7 recruited plays on this team, 2 that a RS year would do some good for. The 3 are recruited walk-ons and 1 plain walk-ons that plays.
It takes time. Just like when you build a business from the bottom up it takes time and good people to get everything going good.
I doubt that he's doing ANYTHING that HE doesn't believe gives him the best chance to win. I think you could say this about pretty much every coach in the entire country.
What I'm saying is I don't agree with his substitution patterns. Sure, you'll say he knows better, but you could use that arguement with every aspect of basketball and ISU, but yet discussion still ensues.
Maybe we should just leave every aspect of ISU basketball alone, because GMac is obviously doing what he thinks he needs to do to win.
That would be fun.
Anybody post on this board that is a Division 1 Head Mens Basketball Coach....?
I cant expect coach mac to do much more than he has with our roster situation. Lots of defects. You may be able to make an arguement that some of those defects are his fault in recruiting.
