Consistency was the big thing with the officiating. It seemed like Texas got away with a lot more physical play and if we laid a hand on a guy the whistle blew. Seemed like every rebound or lose ball they were coming over the top on us or doing a lot of reaching in. One of the offensive fouls Petey got called for was a really big flop too. When has Petey EVER pushed a guy down twice in a game!? The whole reason he used and forearm was Augustin was all over him and using a lot of hand checking that we were getting called for all game long.
The refs definately played a factor in the game I think. Wether it was the difference is debatable but in the 2nd half and OT Texas had just EIGHT fouls while we had them in the double bonus in the last 5 minutes or so which is where they got back into the game at the FT line. Greg probably would have got a T had it not been a tight game and I don't blame him because we definately were not getting the same calls Texas was.
What were the refs hometowns? IC?
We have only had 3 games with that many fouls (20) and all 3 were losses. When we get called for a lot of fouls it compounds our short commings. Our margin for error is razor thin this year.
I think most of the issues people have with the refereeing is the things they didn't call. Yes when you're watching on tv they can and will review the called fouls, in which case they are usually right. But how much time do they spend on things that aren't called? I was there no watching tv so I'm not sure, but the uncalled blatant fouls plus the called minuscule ones meant we got totally off tempo more than a couple times. Does that mean we would have won otherwise? No. We still had real trouble with things that had nothing to do with officiating. But it means we could have if they were better (i.e. consistent on both sides).
and i've said this many times... but the Texas', Kansas', UCLA's, UNC's, Duke's, etc. get EVERY call because of the name on their jersey's... unfortunately for us, we support ISU, who, for some reason, the world is out to get one way or another...
