Re: ISU and Its Place in Big 12 Basketball the Next 2-4 Seasons

I'm not saying it will be next year that this team gets 20+ wins and makes the NCAAs. Things will get better. Adding 1, 2 or 3 guys that can hit a 3 will do so much for this team. When there are many threats from 3 point land it changes the game, the way a team defends you, allows you to score more points, and opens up the middle for dribble drives and the post players. It could be pick who you want to beat you. Dont forget the 3 point line moves back next year as well. The players on this team dont shot the 3 well when there is a player on them, a hand in their face, and they dont make their own shot.

Why did I rank McD so high, in one plus season he has beat everyone below him except Pat Knight, Martin and Turgeon. He had his way with Turgeon when they coached in the MVC (if my memory is correct), and Turgeon steped into a much better situation that McD did. Martin steped in to a dream when it comes to talent, but he hasnt even been a head coach for 30 games, so it is hard to tell, but he will have growing pains at some point. We have no clue on what to expect out of Knight, his dad may have been the best coach in the conference.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

We need to start demanding and expecting excellence from all of our Cyclone programs...including MBB. For all of you in the "give it time" crowd...next year is year 3...expectations should by high.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

You can demand in one hand and crap in the other....let me know which one fills up first.

I think Craig will average more like 17 and 7, if he puts on a lot of muscle. Wesley could easily put up 20 ppg, especially if he works on his three shooting. I think Lucca wil have a big impact on the game whether he scores 25 or 2, since Mcdermott has said repeatedly he is the best passer on the team.

I would say, judging from some things I have heard about Appleton, that really for him it is 50/50 between us and Kentucky.

The older I get, the more patient I get. That doesn't mean I don't want progress, or even to win a National Championship and be a contender, every year.

With the unique set of circumstances that McD inherited, I would suggest patience.

Meanwhile, help yourself to some more "Cy-Aid".

For ISU to improve much, Clinton Mann will turn out to be somewhat like Gary Johnson was for Texas last night. Buckley will resemble Eric Gordon moreso than Ricky Morgan. Lucca Staiger will be all you guys think he is, and Craig Brakins will be 250# and undergo a personality transplant, taking on Jared Homan's agressive traits. Wesley Johnson won't average 20, and Brakins won't average 17, but if everything goes the way you have it planned, they won't have to.

I dont think that the rest of the big 12 is going to shake in its boots when isu takes the court next year...Or any year for that matter... Did anyone see the Texas game last nite? Thats what you can do with the highest budget in the conference and a coach who can recruit...

You can't play what you cant recruit...quoting Earle Bruce

One thing you're forgetting is that Curtis was one of the strongest guards in the big 12 as a freshman, whereas Diante is one of the weakest.

Disclaimer: I am not a pessimist, but I do consider myself a realist. In another thread, GMcD says they are recruiting a F/C and a guard. The quality of these 2 additions, if that happens, will go a long way in determining what kind of year we can look forward to. I just don't see the toughness/determination/experience on the projected roster to compete with the top 3-4 programs next year. And just how much Big 12 talent is left out there right now?????

I agree with some here that year 3 should show some substantial results. I'm not saying tourny and I really have never cared about the NIT but this team needs to win more games...it's pretty much that simple. I understand why people like Jeremy are trying to rachet down expectations because I think every one of us thought on day 1 of GMAC's tenure that by year 3 we would be humming along pretty good. Obviously, we are about a year behind what we all thought would happen and it turns out year 4 might actually be our year to turn the corner. I believe Mac has even said as much...still, next year is a very important year for this program, we don't win some big games and that 2010 class everyone is jacked up for might not happen.

I agree with you. Year three, regardless of circumstance, is time to expect results.
