Re: rodney Williams update
Here's my 2cent on Rodney Williams....
Fantastic talent and would be a great addition to anyones class. Mac has a knack for identifying talent and creating relationships with the kids that ultimately bring them to ames or not. But, we have a couple of things in our favor. Close to Minny, his parents could drive for games instead of some of the schools that will (WILL) be recruiting him. He's a 2009 prospect, recruiting has started big time for the twiner schools, the big boys don't amp up their recruiting until the season draws to a close, then, you will see the UNC, the Duke, the Kansas, the Kentucky, etc etc come calling thats the way it works. Case in point, Tyler Zeller, we were all over him as a 3*-4* kid and then as the AAU season kicked in, here came UNC, Duke, etc etc and where did he end up.....UNC.... This kid will blow up on the recruiting front during this summers aau circuit mark my words.....if we get him we will be extremely lucky.....we have some advantages, but, until you can show them we will be in the tourney and on tv, they have to follow the big boys....
On a brighter note......from a very reliable source close to the basketball's upper levels, the PG we've all been saying we need so bad is already signed....From everything the coaches have said, Dominique Buckley is the real deal. They're so excited that he didn't get the pub during the summer, because they really felt his stock on the AAU circuit was going to rise and they might be out on him. Were lucky to have him, and right now, he's one of four being considered for Player of the Year in Michigan.....well anyone knowing basketball knows that anyone that wins that title from Michigan can play....and when his coach says he's a more polished player then Rumeal Robinson was when he came out of high school, thats a statement.
I think our PG will be in good hands next year, and having not one but two three point marksmen in Staiger and Eikmeyer, suddenly those defenses won't be saggin back to defend the penetration from garrett and buckley. We cannot underestimate the losses of Taylor and Staiger, we have those two players this year, IMO we're on the bubble for the tourney if not a lock. I think our focus really needs to be a big for 2009, otherwise we will have Mann, Hamilton, Johnson and Brackins to fill the 4-5 spots. We need a Kelvin Cato in the middle, i loved watchin him play, it was fun to have a force in the middle - that would help our defense and our rebounding, no offense to Jiri, he's a decent player, we need that next level of player in the middle.
Re: rodney Williams update
Rodney is dominating at the Boo Williams invitational, from what I can read of this story. (It's premium, but not the premium part, I don't have a scout membership.)
Scout.com: Rodney Williams Jr. Shines at Boo Williams
Here's a story that includes three '09 targets, Broghammer, Williams, and Royce White. It's non premium
Scout.com: Howard Pulley Wins Boo Williams Opener, 63-52

That would be D-Buck, the Buckmeister. Our Buckmister is Fuller.
Interesting that UW is listed in that final three, and they are supposedly out of schollies after taking several wings. And Tubby can only take so many himself.

A-Rob? Then there is the kid from Breck HS, a wideout who is lookingout of state, probably because Brewster signed so many good wideouts in the '08 class.
Besides, once they see that Brewster can't coach, it'll be a different story. :biglaugh:
edit:I should add that a run up I-35 is a whole lot simpler than one way south on I-35...both for coaches and parents.

Wisconsin will probably sign 2 kids this spring, leaving them essentially out of schollies. Wisconsin is out right now, but they have a kid with a drinking problem, so he's probably gone. However, we are looking to have some open schollies next year for sure, so hopefully we have a good shot at Rodney Williams and Royce White.

Not as much as one or two years ago. They're not playing on the same AAU team anymore, that should say something.
My handicapping of the Royce/Rodney sweepstakes would be Minnesota for Royce White, Wisconsin for Rodney Williams. I'm fairly certain that Rodney wants to leave the Twin Cities for college. But Tubby is still working these two as hard as he can.

They're both on Howard Pulley still.... WWW.HOWARDPULLEYBASKETBALL.COM Click on the roster, and White and Williams are still both listed, and still playing for Howard Pulley. From what I've heard, the staff thinks we have a pretty good chance of getting one of these two.

You're right, for some reason i thought he switched to Minnesota Heat last year. Two MN recruiting screw-ups in two weeks, must be getting old :wideeyed:
If we're getting one of the two, i'd think it'd be Rodney. I'm still hearing from coaching sources in town that Royce is locked in on U of MN.

You could spin it that way, or you can say that the bigger name schools have a lot more options and can wait longer to offer these players until they know for sure how they will be compared to the other players that are on their lists.
Re: rodney Williams update
Hey guys, I started a thread on this on the Minnesota board, just for kicks, and I got a really good response from one guy. He said that Coach Rutter has been recruiting Rodney really hard. He also says Mike Broghammer isn't a high major player.
Rodney Williams/Royce White - Tubby's Barn - Gopher Nation Message Board Community - The Hole - Message Board - Yuku
They seem to think Rodney will have to go to a prep school to qualify.

ut I would change 50% juco to 50% prep school, that kid is not going to a juco, he will end up out east at a prep school, which is a little scary because when those Big East, ACC type coaches get a look out there the chances of him staying out there for college go up in my estimation.
Cy, I will try to help the best I can.
1) the scholarship situation is fluid and changes depending on if our coaching staff pulls some current scholarshps, this has been the topic of much debate here so we won't get into it, but the common thinking is we will have about 3 to give next year.
2) There has been conflicting reports on this, who knows what a 17 year old kid wants to do.
3) ISU has a better shot at Rodney, but as was previously stated, he will probably need prep school to qualify, I know coach Rueter has spent a lot of time working on the kid. My hunch is he won't go to ISU, but you never know.
4) He is not good enough, he is a nice mid major player, but he is not good enough for a top level Big 12 team, he would have been a nice fit if Mac was still at Northern Iowa. My guess is they had him down to take a look and to keep in the good graces of Coach Novak and the Hopkins Program.
Hope that helps
4. Is referring to Broghammer.
It pretty much puts our chances there with Rodney in a nutshell. If he does go to prep, it would be great if he went to Brewster, since our staff has good ties with Brewster. (Craig, Coach Otz friends with Brewster coach)

Nice work cyismydog...keep it up!
Re: rodney Williams update
No prep school. Next year the rule goes into effect that a kid can't "delay graduation" and still go to a prep school the next year--forcing them to juco.
Stupid rule, but it's what the NCAA wants.

Actually, Rodney is just a junior this year, so next year, he wouldn't be delaying his graduation. He won't be like others that go the prep route after they have had there senior years.

I got the impression from the article that he would play in Minnesota another year, then the poster thought he'd go to prep school. Perhaps I misread it.

The rumor is he's going to Oak Hill next year. Sorry, you might have misunderstood it.

Thanks. Apparently I did.
