Do you guys understand that McD HAS TO PLAY walk-ons? We are freaking playing Big XII basketball with walk ons and FRESHMEN! We only have 3 players that can compete at this level right now. Clark, Jiri and Wesley. And Wesley is injured.
This program was horrific when he took over. I'd say he has done a pretty damn good job and know most of you will eat your words in a year or two.
I'm not defending their play, because it is awful. But no other coach in the country would do any better with this team.

I wonder if Mac wishes he would have tried harder to keep some of the guys that left because they didn't fit his system and sense of discipline. As a result, I think Mac is partly responsible for having to play walk-ons.
I think Mac will be lucky (give him credit if he can finish the recruiting deal) if we sign Appleton. Might save his ISU coaching career.

At the rate we're going, Drake could have more wins this season then we've had the last two years combined. I hope we can get this thing turned around, and end the season on a positive note, but it doesn't look good right now.

How many guards left the program other than Taylor in the last two years?

Depends if you're counting from the beginning of last season or since McDermott has been hired. Taylor, Dunson, McIntosh for sure. Degand, Carr, Stinson, Blalock if you're going back farther. And the reports indicated that McDermott also told Lawrence Westbrook to look elsewhere, and he is getting PT for Tubby Smith.

I think Mac will be lucky (give him credit if he can finish the recruiting deal) if we sign Appleton. Might save his ISU coaching career. Very good point. I don't think we should give a free ride on the player excuses. It was Mac's choice to not go 100% after the players we had, let Westbrook go to MN, not look the other way with Taylor . Not saying these are not honorable decisions, but winning in D-I MBB takes some compromises and coaches need to adjust to players just like players need to adjust to programs. It may be different for Duke or KU, but with a new coach coming into a struggling program "creating the right atmosphere" may have to occur over a 5 year period. I think wins need to happen early to ride the momentum of the coaching change. I think the positive momentum from the "great hire" has worn off. Now it's going to take a lot more work then had maybe Mac been a little more flexible / motived to win from day 1.

I think/hope that the McD questioners don't want him fired... but they do expect things to get better... They will... if they don't then the McD questioners won't be asking questions, they will be clamoring for a firing...
The problem is, who ya gonna get?
Like Andy said on SoundOff last week... Are your minds so pickled with PBR Tall boys that you have forgotten how badly you wanted Greg McDermott in Ames? It was your impatience that pushed Wayne Morgan out the door. Now you have to have enough patience to let McDermott get his system, recruits, and ideology in place. | |

Looks like next year's newbies will be starting. Main disappointment is lack of a semblance of a plan. Mike Taylor covered up for our lack of offense sets last year. This year I see no predetermined offensive movement - our offense including in bounds plays look as naked as a lamb in the middle of a winter storm.

Start Diante Garrett from here on out... he might have potential for next year and Petersen just isn't Big 12 caliber.

Man I am getting depressed just reading this thread. I have a ticket to the K-State game, and I'm considering not going right now......well tomorrow is a new day, maybe I'll feel better. Its good to have good crowds, but I can't blame the fans....we are not good, we are not fun to watch, and I don't see much hope for the rest of the year at this point.

The Nebraska game will be a win. Better make that one. If Wesley's leg gets healed, we will be better. When he is able to rebound, we will do better. I still not understand th offense - we shoot the ball at the darnedest times and take many crazy shots. We rarely score on in bounds anymore. How can we be so lousy at rebounding?
