Re: A few people may not want to hear this...

One element we are missing this year is the three-point threat. It allows defenses to sag on our bigs. From all I have heard about Lucca and Ike I would like to believe that one of those two can become a Jake Sullivan like player. If the defense has to be aware of where they are it opens up the lane for DG and Wes to drive to the hoop, and it reduces some of the double-teams on the bigs.

AT is a different player than in the past. He is bigger and playing a different role than he did at Iowa. It may take him a few years (last and this year) to get totally into that. McD and this staff also have to undo the damage that Alford did to him at Iowa. Some of it my be in his head as well. If this staff can get SH out of a 0-30 slump anything is possable

Re: A few people may not want to hear this...

For the first time in his young career, I see some progress/confidence in Garrett's game. That's encouraging. I also think Wesley is hurting a lot more from his injury than he was when he came back the first time. Just wish I could find some positives in Thompson and Brakins, the spots where we will be most lacking next year.

The issue is that a Big 12 team also needs players with sufficient talent and athletic ability to play competitively in the league. It could take years to find sufficiently talented players that "fit" the system well enough to make a legitimate Big 12 title run.

I'm not a big fan of a strict "system" approach. There has to be some balance between the framework of the system, and adjusting that system to match the talent and athletic abilities of the players that one can actually get to ISU.

In December when this team was playing well it looked like McD opened it up a little bit and allowed them to play outside the system a little bit. When Wes went down and when the team started to stuggle he tightened stuff back up. Thats just my thoughts. I liked the fact DG went to the hole last night eventhough Jiri was open. DG needs to see that and needs to get confidence he can do those things. I dont think McD was mad at him like the TV guys said.

Re: A few people may not want to hear this...

Let me preface this by saying I haven't looked at next season's nonconference schedule, but I think we will have just as many wins next season as this season. I think we will win more game in the nonconference because we won't be breaking in so many new guys. However, when conference season rolls around, I think we will really see the loss of Jiri and Rahshon. Our guards will be better but that will be offset by the losses of Jiri and Rahshon. We just won't have the talent to match up with the rest of the conference resulting in a 7-10th finish in the Big XII.

Barring any significant defections, I really don't see this team doing much until the 2009-10 season. I think we can make a run at the NCAA assuming CB becomes a physical presence. If we can't find someone to dominate the paint, we are all going to be disappointed.

I have the most poorly organized posts. sorry

Im patient when they got down by 16 to okie i turned it off to whatch "This Old House" on my DVR to remind myself you need a foundation before you can build a house and that you need some good defense to defend the termites

Craig needs someone to kick his *** and toughen him up. He should be in the 240 lb range next year. Hopefully his attitude toughens up allot more, or I foresee many more post touches for Wes.
honestly what you makes you think that AT is a 8 and 8 type of player he has played in over 90 games in the big 11 and big 12 conference, he averages like 2 points and 2 rebounds a game in those games. I do think he is one of our better defenders but to have him that strong on offense may be pushin it, wouldn't mind it this time if i was wrong though!

AT really needs to work on finishing in the post. He misses a ton of ducks. Seems like he has a better chance to make an open 3 than a 2ft baby hook.
