Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
I think having Greg win with basically 3 walkons in the 2nd half, Cameron, Brian and Sean, shows he does know what he is doing...just my opinion of course.

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
the doubts are gone after the COACH made the adjustments and won us the game (note that first half Neb. 24 ISU 11 & 14 turnovers, second half Neb. 28 ISU 49 & 0 turnovers) also, did brackins even play in the second half, just thought of that?

Not a minute-response about CB
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
Patience people. As I sat here thinking, I can't remember may teams having to overcome as much adversity as Greg did. Maybe Baylor with their murder scandal and that program was reeling for couple years. Greg took over a program in as bad a shape as Gerald Ford's presidency after the Nixon years. LE won some big games for us, but behind the scenes he ran a sleazy program. There was far more going on behind the scenes than what he got caught doing(I personally know some indiscretions that were never made public and won't make them myself). Greg will win at Iowa State and will do it in a manner to be proud of. I'm already proud of the character of the players that stuck around and the recruits he is bringing in. Things will improve.

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
I am one that has not been impressed by him - i am giving him the benefit of the doubt b/c he has had so much turnover in his two years (don't know if that is him or the situation). But give him another 2 years and if he doesn't improve and looses Harrison Barnes, then he will be replaced.
McD has been a winner and he is a stand up guy, got to give him a chance to get a class all the way through before putting him in the unemployment line. Plus in 2 months he won't have Jiri jacking up 3's all game!

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
You also have to consider that most coaches do not create a game plan that involves one of your best players having flu-like symptoms (Wesley). The adjustments in both game plan and effort after half-time is an extremely positive indicator of good coaching.

Him and Taylor don't even compare. Thigpen was and is five times the player Taylor will ever hope to be. The only guard combo I would say we've had compared to Thigpen and Bayless was Stinson and Blaylock.
Great post by the way.

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
I have serious problems with giving a coach this early with us ultimatums to stay head coach... you let things settle, support him as family.. he has not underachieved any expectations this early.. dont speak of our limitless talent..delusions of grandeur.. putting unfair pressure on him and doubts in the minds of many including recruits.. I dont care if we had ended up losing by 50.. let go of your illusions and support the man and the team through what was supposed to be an ever tougher time than whats it been.. a good win today.. GO CYCLONES!!!!

Iowa State's fortunes improved during the 1991-92 season, with the Cyclones finishing 21-13 overall (5-9 in conference play) and earning the No. 10 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones defeated No. 7 seed UNC-Charlotte in the opening round before losing 106-98 to the No. 2 seed Kentucky Wildcats in the round of 32. Iowa State recorded wins over #16 Iowa, #21 Oklahoma, #2 Oklahoma State, #3 Kansas, and #13 Missouri during the regular season. Junior Justus Thigpen led the team with 16.3 points per game, while junior Ron Bayless averaged 12.6 points per game. Freshmen Julius Michalik and Fred Hoiberg averaged 13.6 and 12.1 points per game, respectively.
It doesn't mention Loren Meyer, though he was on the team that year. To say that he was devoid of talent beyond the inexperienced freshman completely ignores Thigpen (a very very good player) and Bayless, who I don't know all that much about.

So that team was 5-9 in the Big 8, This team is 4-7 in the Big 12. This team is 4-4 aginst the old Big 8 thus far.

Great post by the way. Hornacek and Gary Thompkins weren't too shabby.
